We Need To Face Illinois in the B1G Tournament

Personally, I want to avoid IL and MN as long as possible. I think Purdue is a more favorable match up than either of these teams the way they are playing. MN is a legit Sweet 16 team, maybe more, IMO.

Purdue is the #1 so a perfect setup would be face Illinois in the 8/9 and beat them, then get a shot at Purdue.

I agree 100%. We can virtually eliminate them and take their spot being one of the last teams in the Dance with a head to head win in the BTT. Only reason it probably isn't happening now is due to us continuing to win so I'll obviously take that but we really could use a matchup with them 1 more time and whoop their ass out of the BTT and NCAA.

Screw that. Iowa doesn't match up well with Illinois, which is why they swept us.
I was thinking the same thing about the matchup. Not good for some reason. Malcolm Hill was ineffective against us, but then you have the likes of Finke, Morgan and Coleman-lands.

Headbands and man-buns kill us, and I don't know why.

Big, athletic, guards are what they bring to the table.

I think Iowa would kick their ass to be honest.

Other than presumably disliking the Illini, care to explain why? Illinois is playing very well right now and seems to have improved since sweeping Iowa (the last time being on your home floor, this one being on a neutral court, venues where Illinois has played several times this year and fared pretty well).

However, from an Illini perspective, it seems to be hard to ever sweep a team three times in a season, so it'd be a scary game. Win it, and we're likely in, IMO (assuming we take care of business against RU).

I just think Iowa is playing very well right now, yes so are you but IA had head up ass vs you at home coming off of the Minnesota hangover and this team snapped out of it and is on fire right now. It would be a pay back game and I can see Iowa running you out of the building.

I hope we play them too, because if we beat PSU our next chance to play Illini is in the championship game. If we win Sunday we're #7, and they are locked into 8/9 game unless we lose to PSU.

I think that the reason chitown brings up is the key. Beating a team 3 times in a season is very tough to do...and in this case these teams are pretty competitive.

I would anticipate Iowa coming to that game with a real edge in terms of the emotional part of the game.

Both teams are playing well right now and Illinois has some weapons but so do the Hawks.

Huh?

IL is (I believe) going to be paired with MI. We wouldn't have a chance of playing either until the finals. Loser of that 8/9 game is likely out.

Iowa will be in the 7/10 game (seeded above MI if we finish tied in the standings), vs. the 10 seed which will probably be OSU.

Highly doubtful any sub-0.500 team in conference play will be in consideration for a tourney spot this year. Illinois needs to finish 9-9 vs. 8-10 to have any real chance. Only non-bubble team they've beaten in the B10 is NU. They are 0-4 vs. the top 4 (WI, PU, MD, MN); Iowa is 3-3 against those teams.

Iowa needs to close out PSU and win 2 BTT games (likely vs. OSU and then the #2 seed which could be MD, WI or MN at this point - I think the winner of MN/WI will be the #2). If we win vs. PSU and OSU, it may not be enough to get off the bubble, regardless of what IL does.

Well that would mean that we lost Sunday so it would be a moot point
Yep. If we end up in the 8/9 seed match vs. IL, it means we fall below MI.
AND it'd mean playing PU in the next round, so if it does come down to IA/IL, then either team would need to upset the top seed in the tournament and probably would need to win at least 1 more to jump over MI or MSU for a spot.

Malcolm shut down Jok and their PG shut down bohannon. We didn't guard Coleman and Finke is annoying wild card. We really should be able to beat them. I'm worried about beating PSU right now...they are pretty athletic defenders which can give us trouble.

If we had beat Minnesota we'd be playing for guaranteed 4 seed, possibly 3, tomorrow. But I suppose everything that's happened since then maybe wouldn't have played out the same either

and obviously win. I think that is the match up that benefits Iowa the most.

Wouldn't that require Iowa to lose to PSU? If Iowa wins on Sunday, doesn't that clinch a 7 seed? If Iowa loses to PSU, they'll have to get to B1G tournament championship to have a prayer.

Thx aurora. Can't believe how long this discussion has gone on about the Illini.

Illini locked into #9 seed, right? Nebraska is #10 if they beat UM and IU is #10 if they don't, right?

It doesn't matter now they are done for, the point of the discussion AT THE TIME was Illini were in and we were not so being able to knock them out of BTT would of been huge whether it was possible or not was the point. Rutgers did that for us so move on.

Illini were playing so well it took Rutgers to the final seconds before they could put 'em away...for their third league win of the year. ;)

After Iowa beat Wisconsin, the only way that it could have ended up playing Illinois was by losing to PSU.
