seems like a good week for the bye... but not because of Iowa... but because I don't see a lot of other appointment viewing match-ups this week...

Texas oklahoma isn't really doing it for me... and its the marquee match-up that I can see.

The big10 doesn't have a must-watch game unless you really enjoy Nebraska losing...

Seems like a good Saturday to do something other than watch football...

thoughts?

Yeah, really bad weekend for college football. Couple games here and there that I might catch a few minutes of but definitely not an all-dayer like usual. Hopefully it's nice out so we can be in the field without missing any good football. Also a good weekend to hang with the wife and make her think she's more important for just a little while.

Every week in-season Iowa doesn't play is a weak weekend. Getting outside in the best upper midwest time of the year instead.

I'm taking the sports car out around the Driftless Area for some sight seeing this weekend, tear up some roads.

Might listen to some football on the radio in the process though...

TTU vs WVU is a good game if you want to see the polar opposite of an Iowa football game.

ISU is playing Kansas. It would be funny for them to beat Oklahoma, but lose to Kansas at home.

Auburn/LSU is a big game. Auburn got beat by Clemson, but they've turned around their season and look like a contender again. LSU doesn't look all that talented this year, in comparison to some of the teams they've fielded lately.

Oklahoma/Texas looks like a blowout on paper, AND you have an angry team in Oklahoma coming in after one of the most embarrassing losses in school history.

Georgia Tech/Miami will go a long way in determining who gets to lose to Clemson in Charlotte in the ACC Championship Game.

Ohio State will demolish Nebraska. This won't be close.

Utah/USC doesn't do much for me. The P12 is all about Wazzu/Washington this year

Where/what is the driftless area?

In a nutshell, the far NE corner of IA, SE edge of MN and a larger swath of SW WI that the last glacier did not level.
Always beautiful, the fall colors have been slow to develop. You get a good idea of the area running up 151 through Dubuque to Verona. I drove up yesterday--still very green yet because of all the rain and the lack of cooler nights so far. Saw some maple "reds" just north of the IA/MN border on 63/52, up to the Hastings MN area.
PS: The two counties in NW IL running along its border with WI west of Dubuque ( the Galena area) are also in the driftless area.

OK thanks, I'm aware of that area, just never heard it called that. Would LaCrosse Wisconsin and Winona Mn be in that area you described. I had a nephew that played football at Winona St and went up there a few times for his games. We would drive to LaCrosse sometimes. Very beautiful areas.
