Welcome aboard Ben!

I am seeing quite a few mid-major players in the tourney that are just as good, if not better, than anyone on the this year's Iowa roster other than Freeman and Dix.
Individuals, maybe. You recruit a bunch of mid-major players to a major-conference team and you end up with...a mid-major team in a major conference.

All that said, I have no reason to doubt BM's recruiting chops, and am confident he'd be able to find the right mix of pay-for-play and coaching to develop at least above-average rosters most seasons.

Can the new coach convince Dix, Sandfort and others to rejoin the Hawks? Or do they all transfer due to their loyalty to Fran? They're pissed Beth fired him & will never play at Iowa again?

Am I? Very, very few people who live outside of Iowa grow up as Iowa fans. You don't seem to know why the students I mentioned attend Iowa.
yes, yes you are. Students who are sports fans tend to root for their school, no matter where they grew up. If you're at a school for four years you get enthusiastic for the teams and feel the excitement of the fan base while on campus every day.

I've moved around, KC, Chicago & now San Diego. I always root for the home teams now. Well with the exception of the Bears. I grew up a Viking fan and just could not bring myself to cheer for Da Bears....

So unless you grew up in Nebraska and by some chance end up going to Iowa for college, you're rooting for the Hawkeyes!

There's a big difference between growing up as an Iowa fan and becoming one once you're a student. I guess because I grew up in the Chicago burbs I must have been a Depaul fan, or maybe Loyola or Northwestern. By your logic that would preclude me from being a die hard Hawk fan. Please.

Maybe it's because I was in Iowa City during the 80's but I never missed a Football or Bball game and had season tickets even after I graduated. The same goes with a lot of my friends.

If the players understand where the program was headed/has been, they should have known it was coming.

Dead last in attendance. Suffering financially because of that(both the athletic department & NIL). That means less money for them - the players.

Really did like the loyalty that the players had in Fran. Just wish he could have taken it little higher...
Water under the bridge.

NOW, let's keep Dix, Pryce, Traore and others. If we can. 🤞🤞🤞

Alright, so that covers the Napervillains who are totes Iowa superfans and don't care at all about the Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox, or Notre Dame. Now do the third of students who are from China.

I mean roughly two-thirds of the student body are from """""Chicago""""" or China. Translation: they don't care about Iowa sports. We can talk about how Carver is sort of in the middle of nowhere next.
I was at Iowa in the mid 1980’s. There was nothing dramatically different as far as student demographics back then. Half of the student population was from Chicagoland and Carver was always sold out for men’s basketball.

Iowa has a student section? But it would be nice if we did, and if they ringed the bottom rows of the arena like they do at Michigan State and Illinois, to name just two of many, many examples. This has to happen in time for next season. It's decades overdue.

And yes, how about black shirts and gold ties . . .
We could spend the next how many ever months until next basketball season shaming the students as a sort of reverse psychology way to get them to show up to basketball games, and they'll actually just double down and even fewer will show up to games going forward, because that's how these kids roll these days.

"You know it would help the program if you guys showed up"

Iowa students- Nah, I'm good.

"You guys suck at representing your school, and should stay away from Carver"

Iowa students- Okay...we will.

"You guys suck at representing your school. You need to stop being lazy embarrassments to the University of Iowa and get your asses to Carver."

Iowa students- Nah, I'm good.

So, what do you do?........🤷‍♂️

Most people are fans of the school they attend.

That said, I went to ISU, but I’m from Iowa, so I’m an Iowa fan.

Excluding some asshole like me, my guess is a very large majority of those kids from Chicago are now Iowa fans. Hell, have you ever been to Chicago? Iowa might be about as popular as Illinois in that town. There are a lot of Domer fans, but Iowa doesn’t take a back seat to hardly any other college fan base in that town.

The Chinese love basketball. Football, not so much as they don't understand the game. But basketball has tremendous following in China.

I'm a little skeptical of this, considering student attendance at MBB has been bad and it's even been faltering in football in recent years. Just my own observation though, I guess.

This is correct.

There are approximately 2,000 international students total at the University of Iowa. 7-800 of them from China.

Haven’t football student tickets been sold out for several consecutive seasons?

I don’t feel good about trusting your observations.

They will get their chance, but if they came to Iowa just to only to play for Fran, they were sold a bad bill of goods. They should have been smart enough as college students, the kool aid that Fran was giving them was never going to win any championships while he was the head coach. If they leave after the new coach interviews each of them, then so be it.
As far as Brock is concerned if he wants to be a starter at Iowa, it's not going to happen if Stirtz comes to Iowa, the guy plays 40 minutes a game. If he wants to be a back up, sure come on down, but that doesn't sound like Brock though, so who knows. Good luck to him wherever he go's, be the best you can be.

All was OK before Fran started accepting recruits from Moline. Iowa was in the NCAA tourney before they showed up & got himself fired. Sorry, had to poke the bear and rub that in your pie hole one last time! 😁

I graduated from Iowa, thanks.

You'll have to forgive me for remaining skeptical at the idea that UI students are such big fans of the Hawks that they...don't really go to MBB games and the student section at Kinnick is not always full.

This, most students become a fan of their school while attending the school, not before.

Don’t any of these portal kids have girlfriends that can influence them? Is money better than hoo-ha? At what dollar amount?

Pretty good chance he gets Koch and Sandfort back. Dix could still come back but he was also pretty likely to test the portal even if Fran stayed.
