Luka and Wieskamp were holding us back.

It’s more a product of several good recruiting classes in a row. Not every player has or will work out, but the talent evaluation has been really good since those 14/15 classes.

You could see the talent even in limited minutes. Fran made his decision to build the team around Luka with shooting. That decision is going to get more scrutiny as the year goes on. But I get where Fran was coming from trying to keep his rotation short last year.

Can’t change the past. Gotta take advantage of guys like Keegan now. Use his and Luka’s success to keep the recruiting train going.

It sucks, last year could have been the perfect combination of talent. Garza and Weiskamp should have seen a lot more minutes with Keegan/Pat/Toussaint/Perkins. We got Jbo at 29 and Connor at 22 a game instead though. Both would have been great off the bench.
I said this last year after the MSU game.

It was clear more defense to compliment the two stars was the recipe for a tournament run.

And that Keegan should have been on the floor as much as possible.

It's also why I wasn't happy about JBO coming back because I knew there were more talented guys on the bench but he's a made man with Fran.

So, we must have lost tonight, huh! I'm guessing that we played a good game though to have people needing to resort to bitching and moaning and complaining about last year.

No.

They were being held up by Fran’s stubbornness in leaving CJ, Connor, and JBo on the floor together. Keegan was terribly underutilized and Ulis, Perkins, Kris, and JT were never given a fair shake to earn quality minutes. Last year’s failures were 100% on Fran.
I'm a bball dumby so ignore but it's seems a lot easier for keegan because Garza isn't bringing most the defense in the paint. Not take away from the fact that Keegan continued to work his butt off improving and preparing to be the man.

Tony looks much improved, so acting like he's the same as last year...I don't buy that.

We were 3rd in the country in offensive efficiency so it’s just a defensive question, and playing Keegan more was the main question, over a hurt Connor essentially. His minutes did go up later in the year.

Keegan, Kris and TP should have been playing more instead of Pat and injured CJ.

Toussaint and Ulis should have been the pgs.

Luka on just about any team makes them top 20 in offensive efficiency.

I don’t agree on Joe T and Ulis. Ulis wasn’t ready and Joe T had some really bad efficiency numbers last year - worst on the team, give or take Connor who I already agreed should have been partly replaced by Keegan.

Ulis looked ready every time he was on the court to me.

Agree to disagree.

Id say JBO and Connor were the ones not ready for Oregon. Ill cut Connor some slack due to injury. And CJ was a shell by then.

I think the coaches would say they had that everyday in practice...

We finished as a 2 seed. What failures guy? We got blown out by the better team in the NCAA tourney who came out hot as hell. Keegan played 24 minutes that game. Connor played less minutes than Perkins and Joe, and CJ the same.

That's calling for a lot of minutes from a number of freshmen that didn't really capitalize on the minutes they played. Tony was 1-3 from three and a bad ball handler. Ahron was frequently lost. Even Keegan hit a kind of freshman wall where his three- point shooting tailed off badly-and he was by far the best of the freshmen that played.

Would Ahron and Tony have played as well as true freshmen as they are playing now. I'd bet not close. We don't know how Keegan would have handled even more minutes-he was older for a freshman but a freshman nonetheless. Last year's team was built for last year. This is a way different team with a very different game plan-not just all about feeding the post first, last and often.
