University of Iowa officials are no longer considering construction of a student-housing project near the athletics complex on the west side of campus.

Last year, UI officials received permission from the Iowa Board of Regents to move forward with plans for a new West Campus Residence Hall to serve the on-campus living needs of student-athletes and the general student population.

In accordance with NCAA regulations, the new dorm was proposed to offer housing for first-year and returning students. Although a precise location had not been identified, the estimated $85 million, 500- to 600-bed dorm was proposed to be near Kinnick Stadium and the West Campus Transportation Center.

The proposed dorm is no longer considered “an active project,” Rod Lehnertz, UI senior vice president for business and finance, told the Press-Citizen on Wednesday.

They might have questioned students on it and they overwhelmingly said they didn't want to live 2 miles from their classes.
Ehhh that depends on what your major is and where they had classes.

I lived in Currier for 2 years and most of my Health and Sports Studies classes were in the Field House or hospital auditorium.

Relax guys. This is just because the new north stands are going to be so freaking huge, they wouldn't be able to fit dorms in that area.

I'm sure that really bothered all 10 of the Health and Sports Studies majors on campus - especially the ones who took all of their gen eds in the hospital auditorium.

Correct me where I was wrong so I can better understand the joke you just tried to make. Thank you.

As a Sports Studies minor I take offense to this and would like.... Oh wait I drove to most of my classes as I lived west of Gilbert and didn't want to walk 25+ minutes to night classes. Never mind, carry on.
