Western wildfires not really getting a lot of press this year

At some point you just have to let the areas away from population burn to clear the under brush.

These areas would catch fire long before there was a National Park Service or firefighters to put them out.
 
Except wildfires is nature's way clearing dead material and promoting new growth. Western wildfires have been around as long as there has been lightning.
While true, it is also a matter of fact that they are becoming more frequent and worse in part due to rising temperatures and less rainfall. Both things that are tied to human-driven climate change.

Absolutely, but the largest damage from a monetary standpoint (Top 7) have all but one been from 2017 or later. While they have been happening for "kind of a long time" the damage is far greater today than its was back then
