The twins are lights out and the freshman fire daggers.

I think this is the best shooting team I have seen Iowa have in … ever.

Butter smooth shots and great play - only weakness appears to be size and post play… so can’t get too excited but wow I love this team already.

They beat a winless Alabama State. Calm down.

For me the best shooting team was 1969-70. Johnny Johnson, Downtown Freddy Brown, Glen Vidnovic and Chad Calabria could all shoot the rock. Averaged over 100 points per game in BIG play with no 3-point shot . I will never forgive Pembrook Burroughs III for spoiling a magical season.

Guys we know what we will get:
Keegan: He will carry the team, but will get oodles of attention
Ulis- very consistent, smooth, great D, somewhat limited offense
JBo - Poor D, Volume 3's
Connor- Great D, Passer
Rebraca (realize have seen little of him in black and gold) - Defense, Rebounds, Garbage Buckets

Wildcards
Joe T: He is so dynamic, if he is earning more minutes, great news, just needs to make good decisions.
Kris: Bet Big, Guy has loads of upside
PMac- Defense and Rebounding must be excellent
Perkins - JYD and improved shooting will decide how far we go
Sandfort - If he can maintain his longrange clip, we are golden

I like the size and versatility of :

Ullis
Sandfort
Perkins
Murray
Murray

When JB and JT are on the floor at the same time, weakside switching becomes a problem

I fully respect Jack transferring with everything he went through..... I think with Jack we would be a legit top 20 team

Last season's team will prove to be a much better shooting team.

Fredrick, Wieskamp, Bohannon, Garza, Murray, Nunge.

Alabama St. was a weak team that sat in a zone the whole game. Great performance by the Hawks though

Would actually love for this team to work on a balls to the wall full court press during these cupcake games. Not one to help reduce the amount of time they have to guard in the half court, but to create defensive pressure, get TO’s and points off of TOs. My concern in doing so would be the fact they already are not a great team defensively, but it would lead to more easy buckets that this team and usually any Fran team, cannot afford to give up. Also could lead to fatigue which can affect long range shooters.

Maybe 25% of the time try it? IDK what the right percentage of defensive possessions would be, but I would like it to be part of our DNA this year.

If the team seems in a rut offensively or just lethargic out there, can’t get anything going… try it. My other concern though would be the potential increased risk of our key players getting into foul trouble, especially Keegan and potential fatigue for shooting if you did it too much, but that is where the depth comes into play.

if you look at the roster, I think they would be capable to do it. They have 5-6 guys who would thrive doing this. Joe T, AUllus, PMaC, Keegan, Kris, Tony,… ?

IDK, Maybe I’d just like to watch that as a fan and I should just stop tying now, as its a bad idea… ha! :)

Where does the great D come from? We were terrible last year and look terrible again this year. Patrick needs to provide what you are asking for but doesn't seem to be able to provide it against inferior competition

I agree - Iowa has the personnel to throw a full court press in there a few times per game. Tall lankey players who run well paired with the quicker guards.

Perkins and Toussaint are quick and pesky. The Murray twins and PMac are tall and lankey. Perkins especially looks like he would lead the team in steals with more minutes. Maybe keep Kris or Keegan back to defend the rim in case of a break.

You don't need to go Tom Davis just a couple times per half IMO Also, Iowa has plenty depth so fouls shouldn't be a concern.

Alabama St. beat NCC in overtime last night 80-74. Liddell, the former highly ranked Texas player led the way with 22 points and 10 boards. Had 19 against us. He is the kind of player I wish we would have pursued when he transferred.

If there had been a three point line back in 70 that team may have won it all. Jacksonville had 2 7 footers that killed us without the three point line. That team was a lot of fun to watch.
