What did we learn today?

We learned Iowa can keep the turnovers in double digits. The Hannah can play the four (if a big was going to end up taking a three at the end, I wish Hannah would have been the one out there). We learned Iowa can hang with and beat any team in the BIG.

What we need to see these last two regular season games? More Hannah at the four. McCabe hunting shots like she did in the first half. AOG staying inside 15 feet. More anger while playing.

It was a tough loss, but win these last two games and go make noise in the BIG tourney.

I think Iowa learned that they can play with anyone in the country.

What sucks is that we likely will be an 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament and if we win the 8/9 match up we will likely have to play a 1 seed (a team like UCLA) to get to the Sweet 16.

In a 2 point loss to #3 UCLA:

Iowa did an incredible job w/ limiting turnovers (just 8).

Iowa missed 12 layups (10-22), however.

Other key stats:

Turnovers:
14: UCLA
8: IOWA

Points off Turnovers:

9: UCLA
9: IOWA

Rebounding:
43: UCLA
34: IOWA

2nd Chance Points:

14: UCLA
16: IOWA

Free Throws:
14-20 (70%): UCLA
15-19 (79%): IOWA

Points in Paint:
34: UCLA
26: IOWA

Eliminate sloppy turnovers and unnecessary fouls.

The gals played well today. Could've had that one.

p.s. I think OSU has the most talent in the B1G, at least from what I have seen.
I think USC has the most athletic talent. OSU is talented but poorly coached.

In a joking/not joking view, I didn’t learn but gor reinforcement that having a skilled 6-7 player impacts the game offensively and defensively on so many levels that it is one helluva advantage.
Who is this "skilled" 6-7 player of whom you speak? The only 6-7 player I saw today has but one "skill"--being 6-7. Although I will give you this: she's damn good at throwing her elbows into the defender when she turns to fire her tough 1-footers.

I'd love for the Hawkeyes to get another opportunity to face UCLA with competent officials from somewhere besides the BIG.

The one who had 22 pts, 12 rebounds 3 blocked shots and altered several other shots. Like I said before whether you think she is skilled or not IMO she has a huge impact on how you have to play the game.

We learned that Jan is a bridesmaid and not a bride.

Also also:
Remarkable that Iowa has now lost four games with missed shots. Just so much woulda coulda for this team.

And it might be unfair to judge, because home court means a lot, but Iowa should know they can beat anyone. I'm hoping they take that to Michigan and find a win.

7 UCLA offensive rebounds in the fourth quarter

Improve play calling and plays when clock is less than 10 seconds. Other than that, the refs beat them as anticipated,

We learned this team is close but just not quite there. They’ve gotten better so credit to them and Jan. But still too many wasted possessions with bad shots, bad drives

20% from 3 for the game (5-25) and 31% in the 4th in FGs, including 2-10 from 3 in the 4th as well. Agree sir. Gotta make shots.

I'm not an officials are against us guy and we have received plenty of calls our way. With that being said, women's officiating is awful. I understand they want women to call the women's game but a lot of them are in over there head.
Agreed. It’s sad that women’s hoops is tainted by the horrendous officiating. I’m a huge fan of Iowa women’s hoops — watch every Iowa women’s game I can. But the embarrassingly inept level of officiating does the players an injustice. It has to improve.

Of course she has an impact. She's 6-7! Ever play basketball against people who are three, four, five, six inches and more taller than you are? I have, and it ain't easy, especially in the women's game, because women can't make up for the height differential by jumping. Hell, if you can walk and chew gum and are a 6-7 female, you should put up numbers like that.

It was the same thing with Purdue's Zach Edey. Player of the Year my backside. He was 7-4 and about 300 pounds! My gawd, what are you supposed to do with that! Edey had little talent, but he sure as hell put up numbers . . . Why? Because he was the size of a freakin' barn! He had no skills beyond his size. And that's the same for Betts. You can have her.

Unfortunately that's nothing we learned. It was known. It's so freaking bad how inconsistent these officials are.

I really think we are clearly a top 20 team.

I am holding to what I said at the start of the season.

We were going to go through some major growing pains but we will look like a different team by the end of the season. I know eye test doesn't account for much but we should not be on the 8/9 line in the tournament. I personally think this team is really about a 5 seed or better but will have to win out to possibly get there and then win 2 or 3 in the BTT.

I think they will get a 7 seed when it's all said and done. Probably getting to play somewhere like LSU.

We took the #8 team into overtime At THEIR HOME. We were 3 seconds from beating the #3 team We deserve to be in the top 25 and be a 6 or 7 seed.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm in agreement. However, you have to win one of those two. Close losses don't count.

Honestly, I'm proud of the girls. It was always going to be a bit of a rebuild immediately after the goat left but these girls have proven they can compete with anyone. Going to be tough going too far in the tourney but you never know. Win a game or two and it'll be a great transition into next year where the sky is looking up. I wouldn't have thought we would've had a shot this year against Betts or Juju before the season began but Iowa isn't far behind right even during a rebuild year.

Is it possible for us to still get a home game in the tourney or is that out?

The fact so many of the players have championship level experience is a big plus and will definitely help during tournament time. Been there done that.
