What is Ben McCollum’s ‘portfolio’

Man, this is tough.

For me, McCollum would easily be my #1 choice, if Devries wasn’t a possibility.

The nice thing is…either one would be a great hire.

Empty argument. I said I want more stability. Not from Fran. More balance in offense and defense. Rebounding and passion. Toughness.

And, a Coach of the Year candidate. In conference. Nationally. Whatever. People need to notice you’re coaching. With assistants that are on the move, desired.
Think we should kick the tires on Niko Medved.

We should still kick the tires
I really don't see much tire kicking going on with this hire. Beth seems to have planned well for this and no doubt has had back channel communication going on well before she actually terminated Fran. The West Virginia extension offer came up before this and Devries sitting on signing speaks volumes.

I think this could go either way and at this stage it comes down to the nitty gritty contract details handled by the agents. If West Virginia happens not to make the tournament that might impact things as well.

McCollum would...

1)be the cheapest overall (buyouts, expected contract, etc)
2)be the best option if IA has to play 'Moneyball'--since we are currently dead last in NIL $$ to spend
3)Since he's from IC, he would prolly WANT to be here, which would make him more likely to accept an offer of any kind
4)B/c of #3 above, the job in IC MIGHT be his dream job, and, by the off-chance he has good success, he might less likely to leave if offered elsewhere

He would prolly NOT be the 'splashiest' hire, or have a great recruiting pedigree, but what IA coach in last 4 decades has?
Who would be the most successful at building back fan engagement and supporting NIL fundraising?

I don’t know the answer, but I think it’s a big consideration. We can’t stay dead last (or near the bottom) in NIL and achieve the results we want.

The fan engagement seems particularly important. I really wonder with a fresh coaching staff coming in if they will combine traditional recruiting with building partially with the portal.

Kirk has said in football that they won't build with the portal but use it to supplement. While we will need to raise our NIL can the same approach work in basketball?

Much like "Not BF" was a great OC hire that brought enthusiasm to the football fan base, "Not Fran" is going to automatically be an upgrade in fan engagement and likely a huge uptick in NIL revenue...

Why did all the threads stop about getting BM? 99% of the threads are about DD….did I miss something?🤷‍♂️ Tia

Welcome back home Ben Mac! Cheaper buyout, cheaper salary. If he’s successful he just might not leave us for more 💰. Also, might be the best ‘moneyball’ coach for us with our inherent disadvantages. 👏

McCollum has been my #1 choice for some time and nothing has changed. He would be a cheaper initial investment and has been a proven winner at the highest levels. Great tournament coach and his teams play their best when it matters the most.

From Drakes roster I would bring:
Stirtz
Manyawu
Banks
Howard

Stirtz instantly makes any team better. Manyawu and Banks are relentless on D and on the boards. Howard is a Frosh with big upside.

Pryce likely stays as their shooter in the rotation is a senior.
