What is the root cause of the problems in America today?

Social media is not the problem.

If there is no social media the ideas and thoughts put forth do not go away. They have always been in the hearts and minds of our citizen and always will be. Social media brings these things out into the open so we in the long run can work thru the issues instead of keeping them hidden and festering in our collective minds and souls. Social media can be and is brutally disgusting at times but it can also be uplifting and informational.

They passed legislation through the House it's dead in the Senate because of ALL REPUBLICANS and 2 Democrats. Please get educated.
The reason we are in this mess is because Democrats got rid of the filibuster for most judicial nominees back in 2013. McConnell finished it off in 2017. And now Democrats are pushing to get rid of the filibuster again. 🤦‍♂️

McConnell forced Reid to do this 1st step for basic nominees during Obama administration because the Confederate Senators couldn't stand a half White half Black be President.

And to think we’d only theoretically have moderate candidates from both parties these past four nominations instead of what happened.

This is on McConnell and his pledge to obstruct anything the President did in 2009, the rise of the tea party and now literal MAGA Nazis today.
Hence, the need for a filibuster. Can you imagine what a filibuster free Senate would be like when the Republicans take back control either this November or more likely in 2024?

No. The GQP will immediately rescind it if they capture the Senate.
They absolutely will not. They wouldn’t have the votes. I don’t think a lot of moderate Democratic senators wanted to come out in favor of ending the filibuster. They could just talk that talk because Manchin could take all the heat. Romney would never let that happen.

Or if 4 justifies didn't perjur themselves during confirmation worthy of Impeachment

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin (Harvard Law graduate) said that they likely didn't perjure themselves because they knew what wording to use during their confirmation hearings.

Disagree.

Social media amplifies the extremes and gives folks a distorted view of the world...

That's a very optimistic view.

When do you think that might start happening?

Kidding aside, while what you say is certainly possible, and sometimes truth does win, that doesn't seem to be the path we are on. How can we change that?

It's happening now, if we count Church membership and attendance, which are at record lows:

Can you provide any evidence that not having “god” in one’s life, makes them a bad person?
I’m a recovering catholic, and I can assure you I know a lot of atheists who are good people. I also know a lot of supposed religious people who are complete scum.
It has more to do with their respective upbringing than any religious or spiritual aspect.
I’m hopeful we get religion completely out of the government in my lifetime, because in my experience, atheists use their brains to think, and don’t rely on an outdated book for advice.

These justices will NEVER be impeached. SCOTUS realistically answers to absolutely no one and is 100% broken.

Our only hope is massive SCOTUS reform. That should be the democrats end game.
Well, that endgame better come in the next four months otherwise, probably waiting until 2028.

Disagree.

Social media amplifies the extremes and gives folks a distorted view of the world...
And social media seems to overwhelmingly amplify the extremes on the right. Why is that?

I mean look at what counts as extremes from left to right. On the right we have gun-toting thugs who want to cripple public education, put women and blacks in their place, pollute at will, erode the safety net, and will doubtless come for gay rights next.

On the left what counts as extremism is pushing for green energy and trying to make sure all eligible voters get to vote and get their votes counted correctly.

If you are on the right you are doubtless thinking my depiction is totally biased. What about "wokeness" and defunding the police? What about Antifa and socialism? What about trans bathrooms?

But look at what left and right are trying to accomplish, not so much what your preferred news source is yelling about. The left is trying to get America to go green, demilitarize the police, protect kids from getting shot, expand the safety net and protect elections. These are virulently and sometimes violently opposed by the right, yet what's so awful about them?

The extremes are not equally bad.

I don't think anyone seriously suggests that not having god in one's life makes them a bad person. But, there is a very, very important underlying characteristic inherent to god-belief: that there is something bigger, and more important, than yourself. Now is it a trait exclusive to god-belief? Certainly not. But it is the loss of that, and the advancement of the self-above-all value that is the "root cause" here.

Sure, for one, weekly Church goers give more to charity and volunteer more than atheists do. By alot.

I always chuckle when people talk about how "good" atheists are. We all do bad things, all the time.

I agree that we have become more selfish as a society, but I don’t think that’s strictly an atheist trait. To be honest, I think that humans thinking they are better and more important than other organisms on this planet, is the MOST selfish thing of all.
Also as an atheist, I definitely believe there is something bigger and more important than me, it’s this awesome planet we get to inhabit! I’ve hand planted over 500 trees and shrubs on our property and I’m restoring a couple acres into native prairie. It’s hard work and expensive, but it’s worth it. We’d all be better off if we put Mother Earth first. It’s where we all end up, after all, back to the earth, like every other living organism on this planet.

I would say Christianity's influence. Net negative. Convince a bunch of unspecial average folks they're special and they deserve everything good for their faith and then they will treat anyone else with a boot on their neck.
