What is your key to success in both tourneys?

I’ll wager in and say bench play. Gotta give the starters a breather and keep the ship afloat. Plus, resume building for next years team.

Gotta be able to defend. Its the number one reason we haven't been able to advance far under Fran so far. Offense can come and go. Defense stays with you generally. That being said, offense gives you that puncher's chance to get really deep in March. Iowa has a nice combo this year.

1. Don't play like we can outrun/outscore the guard-heavy, more athletic teams.
2. Good effort on defense and the boards.
3. Take care of the ball.

We need scoring from our backcourt. The Murray’s and Pat will help but we can’t have Bohannon/Toussaint/Ulis not doing anything in terms of scoring. Perkins needs to keep it up too
Man, this would be a top 5 team with someone like Andre Woolridge at PG. Even Dean Oliver.

I love JBo and JT but neither one are complete PGs.

Stay connected on defense, spacing on offense , and of course rebounding on both ends. Do that, make free throws and if we do those things and lose, give the credit to our opponents shake hands and get ready for next game whether it’s this year or next ,for the Hawkeyes or NBA

Isn't the W-L record 14-0 when the Hawks out rebound their opponent?
I looked at the stats and removed all of the non-con games except Utah St, Virginia and ISU.

In the remaining games, the Hawks are 11-0 when outrebounding the opponent.

The are also 10-4 (2 losses to Illinois included) when they shoot above 40.5%. (BTW - shooting above 40.5% is not a high bar). They are 8-1 when shooting 45%+.

Shooting and rebounding - who'd a thunk?

Joe Toussaint is as close to a complete PG as you will find in college basketball this year. If you look across the sport, he's elite. The reason he's a bench guy is because this team needs elite shooting more than his get-to-the-basket skills since the Murrays, Perkins, and PMac can all get to the basket pretty easily to force the action. Toussaint is getting better at shooting the basketball consistently though. Next year is gonna really showcase his skills.

Jbo. Jbo. Jbo. That’s it. When he’s on, the offense just clicks. When he has a rough stretch, we can struggle.

he brought it big time in some of our best wins of the year.

struggled in many of out close losses.

that, and no foul trouble for rebraca. He’s starting to play much better.

Most have said what I would say are keys to a deep run.

To get to the 2nd weekend most teams have to win a close game(s). In many cases close games are won at the line, through defense and limiting extra possessions for your opponent.

Bohannon’s been more aggressive in terms of driving and playing better defense which helps.. when Toussaint is knocking down that midrange jumper, that’s huge too

If Keegan and Kris avoid fouls the rest usually takes care of itself.

Hopefully avoid Courtney Green would be second key.

This. Depth. Iowa really has it, plus a lot of experience on the bench now, especially if PMac can play. Opponents cannot rest when Iowa subs in because the bench players really defend well.

Our bench of Kris and Conner and JT and Sandy and Ulis is a team on its own. Maybe not world beaters, but pretty heady and steady.

If Connor is back to his old self, not taking shots or when he does, bricks them and JBO is running around and not contributing to the offensive, Iowa will not get to the second week. It's as simple as that.
