It ain't Ft. Madison, my home town, although it was in the '50's for sure.
Why yes they did. It was a government prison, opened late and way over budget. Who would have guessed?Did they build a new prison down there?

Didn't they want to close Gitmo and send the terrorists there, or did they just build it for Illinois' ex-governors.....I thought Thompson was private..In Thomspon IL they built a prison, not sure if Fed or State, that sat empty for over 10 years. If not more. lol

Sabula!
Then you actually go there and feel sad
McGregor?
Every time I drive through there (maybe 10 times a year), the downtown is hoppin' busy.
Haven't been to Burlington in a long time but the internet says good things about their downtown. Home of the Burlington Bulldogs.
I thought it was the Bees or the Greyhounds. Were those offensive to Canines or Hexapodas?
Its the Greyhounds. Bulldogs made me laugh for some reason.
We played them in 1976. Guess my memory is getting a little rusty.
Greatest Iowa HS FB game I ever saw was Tim Dwight's City High squad vs. Tavian Banks Bettendorf team. Last team with the ball won - Bettendorf. No worries. The Bettendorf Bulldogs get credit for everything. ; ) They used to awesome in sports. Now, not at all.

Clinton had a good one, on 5th Ave. no less. Don't know what it's like now. The Van Allen bldg. was designed by a noted architect, I think Sullivan.I am going with Burlington. They have an awesome downtown.

Totally biased but Davenport has the most going on of the decent sized cities on the river, with Dubuque a very close second.
LeClaire is bougie but pretty with good restaurants.

Ahh, yeah. Guttenberg is pretty awesome as well. But Burlington is very unique.
I've been going to Guttenberg since the early 70's. Currently own a cabin/home nearby too.
Downtown Guttenberg is nice, but a bit boring. There ain't much to do really outside of the river. But it is a nice little town, clean, the people are mostly great, and on weekends during the summer it is more lively.
My plan is to retire there.
