Since they would finish in the lower division of the MAC, they’ll finish last in the Big with 4 wins.Slow news day.
13thIowa will lose a lot of talent this year. I have a hard time seeing them near the top of the Big 10. What are your predictions. I'm not sure they will make the tournament.
What were we picked preseason ‘17-‘18? Because we finished 11th.The 2018-2019 season we were picked to finish 10th in the conference in the preseason polls and I think we ended up finishing 6th that year and a 7 seed in the tournament... Then in '19-'20 we were picked to finish 8th but finished 5th in the conference.... You guys are mistaking the unsuccessful tournament appearances with this overall coaching ability, Fran actually does a lot of his best work when expectations are low and I wouldn't be surprised if next season is similar to 2018-2019
Id go ahead and slide Indiana, Wisconsin and Northwestern on down a few peggs.Teams Iowa will likely finish behind:
Michigan
Michigan State
Ohio State
Purdue
Illinois
Maryland
Indiana
Wisconsin
Northwestern
Teams Iowa will likely finish ahead of:
Nebraska
Penn state
Minnesota
Rutgers
I’m revising my prediction to 8-12.
This is close. I think 6-8th is about right. The BIG10 lost a lot of talent from this years rosters so I think Iowa will be in the middle of the pack and on the bubble next year.6th.
What a genius move by Barta with that contract extension! Gotta keep UNC and the Lakers' mitts off our guy!10-14
I have close to zero confidence in this staff navigating the transfer market successfully.

Maybe. I think IU will be much improved. Way too early for these kinds of predictions anyway. Other than Michigan and Purdue anyway....Id go ahead and slide Indiana, Wisconsin and Northwestern on down a few peggs.
But to each their own.
Theres a lot of unknowns.Maybe. I think IU will be much improved. Way too early for these kinds of predictions anyway. Other than Michigan and Purdue anyway....
You need to pay better attention then. They will have a very good teamLast- they lost nearly the entire team- I am worried if they can field a team together
If the extension is meaningless, then why give it?I don’t get why people care so much about extensions. It’s how the coaching business works. If your contract runs out in less than 4 years it’s used against you in recruiting, that your job security is shaky. Coaches get fired with a lot of years left on their deals all the time. Either Fran is coaching or he’s not, the extension is meaningless and no program is firing a coach after getting a two seed in the tournament.
But what happened with an entirely different set of players is irrelevant.Bottom half. They couldn’t win bog with the player of the year.
get serious.

Maybe the extension has less importance if there are deep donor pockets who will make the program flush in the event of a buyout AND there's a competent AD in control. I have no idea about the former and the answer to the latter is a solid no. Coaches do get fired at other programs for lack of post season performance. The chances of that happening with Fran is miniscule. He's already hung around longer than many coaches would have with his post season track record.
Continued poor post season performance doesn't usually equal multiple extensions and bonuses over a 10+ yr coaching tenure. Even at middle of the pack programs like Iowa.
I would have fired Fran before this yearBecause you have to for recruiting. Do you see many coaches get let go because their contract expired? No coaches get fired, having an extension or not has no impact on that.
Would you have fired Fran after this year?
I would have fired Fran before this year
What great recruit that's coming in would they have missed out on had he not gotten the extension?
I keep reading these posts about Fran needing an extension in order to recruit. Odd, I thought that is what the $20 million + he has been paid over 10 years was for. Was there an imminent threat that Drexel or Hofstra was going to make a run at Fran? On the bright side, it is literally impossible for Fran to start 5 white guys next year, so at least the optics around Iowa hoops will improve if not Fran's recruiting.I would have fired Fran before this year
