The only one I recognize is The Fez. What other ones should I make sure to swing by and see before returning to my tailgate?

• Illinois State (Sept. 5) — David Zollo and The Body Electric (blues/rock/roots)

• Pittsburgh (Sept. 19) — The Fez (pop/rock/soul/groove)

• North Texas (Sept. 26) — King of the Tramps (rock/blues)

• Maryland (Oct. 31) — Danita Portz (new country)

• Minnesota (Nov. 14) — Brother Trucker (roots/rock)

• Purdue (Nov. 21) — Jacob County and The Damaged Goods (Americana/rock ‘n’ roll)

I don't recognize any of the groups. Are they local?

can't speak for all of them, but yes a couple are local. Dave Zollo has been a pillar in the Iowa City music scene for more than a quarter century. First gained notoriety with the band High and Lonesome. Unfortunately, just before signing on with a major label in the mid 90's Dave was diagnosed with pre-cancerous tumors in his vocal cords which derailed that band and forced him to stop signing while recovering. At that point he hit the road with Todd Snider, critically acclaimed folk signer/musician. Dave also started his own record label in Iowa City back in the 90's called Trailer Records, recording such artists as Greg Brown and Bo Ramsey among others. When he owned/operated Trailer Records, Brother Trucker was one of the bands that signed on, releasing three albums on that label. Remember seeing Brother Trucker a bunch in downtown Des Moines in the late 90's. First started to see Zollo with High and Lonesome back in the early 90's. Both of these bands should be a lot of fun. Man Iowa City had a great music scene back in the early 90's...not only High and Lonesome(Dave Zollo) but also an excellent band named Sheltering Sky. A lot of good memories back in the Nitty(what we called Iowa City back in the day).

This music series is a great idea by the University, applaud their efforts in this.

I agree its a great idea.

Thanks for the info, Seahawk. Sounds like they've recruited some excellent talent. I look forward to hearing them.

Now, if only I could enjoy a beer or two while listening......

Zollo and Brother Trucker are very good. I have heard good things about The Fez, but I've never seen them

Yet another example of an out of touch marketing department. Barta needs fired......oh, wait. Wut?

never heard of any of these guys, but I did see The Pork Tornadoes last night in Marion. excellent cover band. didn't play many songs that I liked but they are great musicians. iowa should look into booking them.

They are good musicians. Unfortunately a lot of their set is for a narrow crowd. I enjoyed their concert last night but I imagine there were a lot of people wondering what songs they were playing.

See this list of bands and all I can think of these are types of bands I'd expect to see playing at Bo James back in the day at FAC.

I didn't realize that they were doing this. Where are the shows to be held? If University sponsored, will they be normal and allow adult beverages? Or will they be of the funhater type shows?

yep, that was me. i probably had heard of most of them, or maybe i should say recognized. i am definitely getting old, the only ones i knew by name were the ones from the 80's! we did have an elderly couple stop by our group and she said, "it all sounds like noise to me". i think heard the lead singer tried out for american idol??

Definitely a 18-35 target demographic. He was in the final 100 for The Voice.

They're playing on the Krause family plaza. Last year there was a stage west of the kinnick statue, I imagine they'll play in that area.
