Go off, let me know about your lived experience and your thoughts on Trump saying he was saved by a higher power from death. I'm actually curious to hear your take especially.
Okay, I’ll bite (again). As a Christ-follower, I’ll be the first to say it’s not my place to judge President Trump’s heart or declare with certainty whether he’s truly a Christian. That’s between him and God.
However, back in 2015, he talked about his religious background in his book Crippled America, mentioning Sunday school and being confirmed in the Presbyterian Church. But when asked about repentance or forgiveness, he basically said he doesn't ask God for forgiveness...he just tries to do better. Fast forward to his comments yesterday (on Palm Sunday) they, in and of themself, sounded encouraging. If they're sincere, great. But while I'm not called to judge, I can evaluate a person's actions and statements over time. And since 2015, there's been plenty, no? (do I really need to list everything UN-Christian-like he's said and done???)
And in case you missed it, my bigger issue isn't even with Trump. It’s with the Evangelicals who’ve elevated him to near messianic status. The hero worship is nutzo. Some fawn over him more than Christ Himself. That’s not just concerning,it’s downright deplorable.
Again, it’s not my place to judge his salvation. But as believers, we are called to be discerning and the Bible says, 'You will know them by their fruits' (Matthew 7:16).
I think I’ve said it before, I just wish he’d be honest. Like, look, just say: "
I’m not really into this whole God thing. I just use it as a manipulation tactic to secure enough votes to win the presidency. I do, however, agree with most conservative policies, and that’s where I’d prefer to focus. To my Evangelical supporters: I’m sorry you weren’t discerning enough to grasp the con."
Or actually, IF he actually were to say it:
"Look, I’ve always said, I’m not exactly a 'church every Sunday' kind of guy, okay? I’m not really into the whole God thing the way some people are. But I know what works. And let’s be honest: talking about religion? It plays well. People like it. It helps with the votes.
Now, I do support a lot of great conservative policies--tremendous policies. That’s where my focus is.
And to the Evangelicals? I love you. Really, I do. But if you didn’t see what was going on, maybe you weren’t paying close enough attention. Sad!"
