What was Bluder waiting for last might?Wh

She better play this weekend. Drake will go zone 100% of the time and if you have a 40%+ 3 pt FG% player sitting your bench while you go 2-21 again without her, then just call it a day.

Just guessing on my part, and I'm not saying Affolter and Feuerbach don't deserve every second they're getting (if not more), but if McCabe ends up watching this season from the bench again, does she stick around?

I’ve thought about this as well. I probably would if I was her. IMO she’s too good to spend half her collegiate career on the bench.

Didnt they have someone similar few years ago and she ended up transferring to like Drake or Creighton, and starting for them.

Yep, lauren jensen. Went to creighton. Dropped 19 on us 2 years ago to send us packing in the 2nd round of ncaa. Still playing for creighton, avg 16ppg last year and over 18ppg so far this year.

At the same time as Jensen, Megan Meyer transferred to Drake. I'm thinking she still had a season of eligibility available, but is no longer on Drake's roster.

Anyone could transfer for any reason but McCabe was barely a top 100 recruit (I think she was low 80s). She shouldn’t expect to start or demand big minutes on a top 10 team as an underclasswoman. As a shooting guard she needs to play good defense and I think that is what’s holding her back from minutes. She is only 5’9, and not very strong (tho she will keep working on that).

Next year, with at least 3 senior guards graduating, she will certainly get minutes and she may get to start. If she was dead set against riding the bench, she should have txfrd before this year. It was obvious there’d be a logjam in the backcourt and she’s the 2nd youngest of them all.

I would say we are at greater risk of losing a post (or two) to the portal. If Edigar isn’t getting minutes this year, she is unlikely to next year. She btw was a top 50 recruit (tbh her offer list doesn’t quite match that, but I’m sure there are decent programs that would start her, maybe Big East schools for example).

Same with O’Grady or Goodman. If Bluder goes small all season (assuming it works — it may not), they shouldn’t expect to start next year unless they dramatically turn things around. Not to mention that there still seems to be a fundamental mismatch with O’Grady and the position she plays. I can’t help but wonder if her heart just isn’t in it.

Melissa Dixon probably wasn't the greatest defensive player, but she could shoot the three pretty well and she played a lot and started as well. Maybe it's a good time to let Taylor play a few minutes each half. If the thinking is she might give up points, sometimes a little offense can offset that, and more.

Agreed. She should at least get a chance when the team is shooting like they were last night.

I think Warnock and Czinano were bigger losses than most of us thought when they left.

Trying to replace their 30 pts a game with the current roster only was certainly a gamble.
The issue isn't so much what we lost as much as it is not being able to manage what we have. Bluder wants to run a read and react offense but she also wants to play 2 posts for the majority of the game -- neither of which are threats from the perimeter. (I know Hannah has hit a few but she's not taking that many shots or looking for that shot). Bluder needs to do what's best for the team and slide Kate to the 4. Kate/McKenna are very similar players with a similar build. Then Bluder needs to tell Kate to look for her shot and be aggressive as we know she can be an effective consistent scorer when she looks for her shot. Bring Syd into the starting line-up at the 3. Start Hannah in the post and sub Sharon. (Addy doesn't seem willing to play the 5 and probably should either commit herself to playing with her back to the basket or consider a transfer)

Hate this but agree.

I also wonder if starting Kylie over Syd makes sense for shooting. I get that Syd is an excellent rebounder but Martin and Stuelke are also. Kylie actually created her own (deep!!) shot in the VA Tech game and has had multiple clutch treys in her career, going back to HS. Syd has never looked at home at the perimeter. She can drive better but I’m not sure that should take priority.

Either is a good option. Or maybe even moving Gabbie to the 3 and brining in Taylor. Syd has hit some threes. Kylie has struggled as well outside of the VT game but if she finds her rhythm. I think the both need more minutes.

Also I'm don't want people to think I'm knocking Addy because i really think she could be a dominant post if she wanted to. But she has to want to be a 5.
