I was flipping through channels last night and I caught the beginning of Top Gun. One of the best openings to a movie ever as the slo mo and music build together. So, today I want to google something about the movie and all kinds of headlines pop up that Val Kilmer has signed on for Top Gun 2. That will be a bad movie, but I was wondering what is his worst movie? I'm torn between Legend and Far and Away. Probably Legend because it had unicorns and he looked so gay in it. NTTAWWT.

IDK, I just rewatched Taxi Driver. Then I saw a spot for Dirty Grandpa. And I didn't kill myself. I'm calling that a win.

Was Vanilla Sky any good? I'll never watch it but it didn't look good and Cameron Crowe kinda blows. Cruise is a mental case, but he's an entertaining actor. I really enjoyed a lot of Edge of Tomorrow.

**SPOILER**

Hilarious how he had to keep dying. Found the enemy they were fighting to be uncompelling.

Rock of Ages

I saw the trailer as well and my first thought was how did this guy go from Taxi Driver and The Deer Hunter to a shitty spring break road trip movie with Zac Efron.

Seriously - Top Gun. The film is a live action cartoon with nary a believable moment. Or at the very least, an extended MTV video. I realize I am in the minority but we even saw it in the theater back in the day and have always felt it sucked.

it really was not a great film from the standpoint of the story ... but some of those scenes with the fighter jets leaving the carrier were cutting edge ... in a sense.

I had a friend who took about $10,000 of his first big Wall Street bonus and bought a home theater set-up ... and the first film he bought was "Top Gun." He lived in a three bedroom apartment on the Upper East Side with a wife and a kid and with that system, the jet engines almost blew the windows out. Everything in the apartment would shake as the jets taxied and took off from the carriers. (and the kid and the wife would both start screaming)

I do not know if he ever watched anything other than the first minutes of the film, but that was, in my view what made the movie great.

The writing and the story were both lame. The story was essentially the same as "Days of Thunder."

One I saw in the theater, which you may not even know about if you weren't around in the 1980's, Losin' It. It was made around the time of all the spring break movies in the early-mid 80's. Horrible movie. Cruise, Shelly Long, dude that played Cougar in Top Gun, dude that played Kelly Leak in Bad News Bears. Horrible movie.

Have you seen Val Kilmer lately what's he going be the plane?

Do not trash the film with the longest continuous scenes including nudity in movie history...and NK naked and high.
The nudity was fantastic. Everything else was crap. The girl that overdosed had magnificent breasts. Absolutely magnificent.

I thought it was a whimsical look at youth angst. But, I was young and Shellly Long was cute in it. They played that over and over again on HBO when I was young.
Serious answer, that was maybe his first or second movie, so you have to give him a little slack.

Vanilla Sky for me. When it was over, I looked at my wife and said what the hell was that about?

I liked him in Rock of Ages. It was a limited role and he played it well. Kind of like Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder.
I am surprised Cocktail or Days of Thunder didn't get more mentions. That was the point in his career where he played the same roll with only a slight plot/script variation.

"All the Right Moves"...because they put Lea Thompson in the marching band.

But, just like Nicole in EWS, Lea got nekkid in AtRM. And Lea was smoking hot in the 80s. I sullied a lot of Kleenex on her behalf when I was a teenager.

hes been in so many bad movies, oblivion, knight and day, valkyrie, vanilla sky, far and away, etc,

She is still worth a few tissues. Unless she's cratered in the last year she has aged very well with a slight bit of augmentation.

"Vanilla Sky" was a remake of a Spanish film called "Open Your Eyes" that also starred Penelope Cruz in the female lead role. "Open Your Eyes" was a much better film. Of course, any film with Penelope Cruz is worth watching, IMHO.

I haven't seen Rock of Ages, but I don't think I would like it. I liked Eyes Wide Shut and Vanilla Sky. I would probably say Lions for Lambs is his least memorable movie looking through his filmography.

His character in Tropic Thunder wins my vote as his best role. Freaking hilarious every time.

Vanilla Sky was one of the worst movies I have ever seen...only saving grace is Penelope Cruz.

I can't comment on most Cruise because I have only seen a few. The worst casting was Reacher where the book character is 6' 6" and 250 pounds. I laughed when I heard they cast Cruise. Not a terrible movie but he was not believable to anyone who has read the Lee Child series of books.

Cocktail is absolutely awful. Unwatchable.

The worst.

Don't you mean Ted Cruz?

I watched this with a my (one) friend and we looked at each other like, "What on earth was anybody thinking with this set-up?" As usual with Tommy Movies, he was at least entertaining.

Sandy: "I don't mind the sight of blood."
Tom "Jack Reacher" Cruise: "When it means you're not pregnant, anyway."
