Our WR's getting separation clearly is an issue. CJB has to literally thread balls into receivers hands.

Is there somebody currently on the roster who has the capability to get separation but is simply buried on the depth chart?

What about the WR's coming in next year? Do any have the capability to get separation in your opinion?

Any thoughts on how we can get our WRs open? We can't inject speed into them. And you can only run routes so correctly.

Smith has good speed....Scheel and falconer. Teams are playing man on our receivers and they will have to adjust the routes they run accordingly. Use the TE and running backs as a receiver to counter it. The coaches have to adjust to what the other teams are doing, it seems like these coaches don't do that...run the same crap and then complain about execution and cleaning things up!

Is Falconer still in the plans? Seems like he would have had an opportunity to play this year if he was a viable option, unless he's hurt. If he's healthy and not seeing the field and is behind guys like Nash and Young, I am not certain if he can be expected to contribute any time soon in the near future.

We need to turn the recruiting ploy of only recruiting the tall fast basketball type wide outs.. They are out there! I saw them on Miami of Ohios team!

Maybe he still isn't 100%, but scheel hasn't shown me much. Would like to see what Falconer can do. For next year's crop coming in, I like Gavin Holmes and Brandon Smith. Holmes is a burner and Smith is a big bodied athletic freak. Beau Corrales could be a nice tall possession type receiver.

How 'bout we recruit a receiver or two that not only has B1G-caliber size/speed/talent, but also takes less than 4-5 years to learn how to run a route and catch the ball?

Here's the problem. Speedy great route-running in great hands receivers always going to the Alabama's, Ohio State of the college football world. So it's not as easy as saying here's the Supreme athlete wide receiver let's go get him. For Iowa to get a speedy receiver, they have to find somebody who speedy and then teach him how to run routes and hope he can catch the ball. Otherwise our only hope is that the NCAA decides to drop the scholarships from 85 to 75 which would preclude Alabama and Ohio State from getting every Elite high school player.

And block. A wr will never play at Iowa if they can't block.

Separation is a gargantuan issue. Is it speed, coaching(teaching and/or play calling), quickness or agility, or all of the above? What can be coached?

Another issue is "hands". Some people have it, a lot don't. That is something you cannot necessarily determine upon recruitment.

Receiver recruiting has been low on the totem pole for Old Kirk. The lowest on the team, IMHO.

GD's first year we took 4-5 Wrs on his insistenace. KF even came out and said he took fewer OL than he wanted to get them. Problem was, a lot of them didn't stick. We seem to have had a lot of attrition of key prospects at that position.

Oh yeah, and they have to be able to block down field.

I think it's the schemes. We have some speed. McCarron was state champ in the 100 meters. Can't show it just running to the sidelines. Sure hope some younger guys materialize as the season goes on. Our wides also block, though..
