What's on your sports bucket list?

I understand the history and the environment, but there was only one pass in the entire Monaco GP and it happened on the first lap. It’s a boring race.
Just the place is amazing. The views, cars, boats, and yachts as well as all the hot females all over the place. So much money in that part of the world. They don’t call it the play ground for the rich for nothing.

I have been quite lucky and I’ve been to a number of my “bucket list” sporting events already.

Bucket Sporting Events I’ve already been to:
-1996 Olympics when I was an intern with Kodak and got free tickets to all but some of the very hardest to get tickets and my ex-girlfriend at the time bought me tickets to the Soccer Finals and Opening Ceremony. I also saw multiple tennis matchups, multiple Dream Team games and saw the women’s gymnastics finals, the baseball medal games, the Mens 100 finals, and multiple lesser events.
-Super Bowl 25 in Tampa
-1994 Orange Bowl where FSU won the Natty, 1995 Sugar Bowl which was the 5th Quarter in the French Quarter ie the followup to the Choke at Doak, the 1996 Orange Bowl where FSU beat Notre Dame, the 1997 Sugar Bowl where FSU lost the Natty, and the 1998 Sugar Bowl where FSU best Ohio State.
-3 Daytona 500s and 2 Homestead Ford Championship weekends all with pit, hit garage and owners passes courtesy of a friend of my dad’s whose son was a top engineer for Hendricks Motorsports.
-UFC 12 (Mark Coleman vs Dan Severn), UFC 14 (Maurice Smith vs Tank Abbott, Randy Couture vs Vitor Belfort), UFC 52 (Chuck Liddel vs Randy Couture, GSP vs Jason Miller), UFC 88 (Rashad Evans vs Chuck Liddell, Rich Franklin vs Matt Hamill, Dan Henderson vs Rousimar Palhares), UFC 107 (BJ Penn vs Diego Sanchez, Frank Mir vs Cheick Kongo) And also Pride 32 (Fedor Emelianenko vs Mark Coleman, Dan Henderson vs Vitor Belford)
-2019 College World Series where I got to see Mike Martin Sr’s last win in a 1-0 game against Arkansas filled with drama. That was the only game we went to.
-1996 US Open (Tennis) where I watched Pete Sampras win it all after vomiting on the court in the previous round

Still on my bucket list in order of my interest from most to the least
-Kentucky Derby
-Wimbledon
-Calcio Storico in Florence
-Haru Basho in Osaka or Natsu Basho in Tokyo
-Badminton Horse Trials
-French Open (Tennis)
-FSU in a Rose Bowl
-Calgary Stampede
-Stanley Cup Finals
-Rays in a World Series
-Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
-Heavyweight Boxing Championship Match in Madison Square Gardens
-Summer X Games
-AFL Grand Final
-FSU in a Mens or Women’s Final Four
-PBA World Championship
-Indianapolis 500
-FSU in the Softball World Series in OKC
-FSU in women’s soccer national championship game
-US Masters (golf)

Things others love I have zero interest in attending and would have to get completely free tickets to go to:
-NBA Finals
-Any soccer event other than FSU women’s soccer in another championship game
-Worlds Strongest Man Competition
-Any golf event other than the US Masters
-Grey Cup
-Any other Super Bowl (as I went to 25) that doesn’t include the Bucs

I realized that I’ve done a lot already, but here are the top ten left, in order of importance…

6) FC St. Pauli in the Bundesliga at Millerntor

Definitely an interesting place. With the art gallery and now the GIANT carnival area and street market adjacent to the main stand it’s truly a very unique stadium. There’s street art and graffiti in virtually every corner of it.

I understand the history and the environment, but there was only one pass in the entire Monaco GP and it happened on the first lap. It’s a boring race.

TBH, especially having just watched Canada this weekend, Monaco isn't in the upper half of F1 races to watch from an entertainment perspective. Canada, Spa, Nordschlief (if they get back), Spain, Japan, Baku, heck COTA, Austria, Britain are all better races from a competition standpoint.

But Monaco is Monaco. The tight streets, the glitz and glamor, the casino, the harbor, the pool, the tunnel, the hairpin, those all make it what it is. The racing doesn't need to be great. Watching from the balcony of a hotel or apartment or a boat in the harbor would be one of the great vantage points in racing. And the experience is unlike any other track in any other racing league in the world.

And there’s the history. Sena was something else all out in the rain.

My #4 and #8 are both happening this weekend in the Dallas metro. Iowa Raptors going for a title in pro indoor soccer today at 2 pm on Twitch 😁:

My only real dream experience was to see the Cubs win a World Series game, which I finally did at the age of 59.

So I’m good, though I would love to see the Hawks play a title game in football or basketball. Seems doubtful.

Met Adam Wainwright over the winter. Nothing really left after that...

I went to a party at Dan Gable’s house, and got to have long conversations with him, his wife, and two of his daughters. Also had an emotional one-on-one conversation with Dave Schulz’s widow.

So when it comes to meeting stars I’m also good to go.

I poured Gable's foundation, but don't tell @lucas80 as he is kind of sensitive when it comes to my concrete prowess... :)

CSB time.
Drinking beer around a campfire in Indiana a few years and a cousin of my wife is blapping away about knowing a Cardinal pitcher from college. He was a reliever for a few seasons, Kenny something, or something Kenny. He went to Quincy College…. Kenny, Wainwright, and another pitcher are down in Florida on a rehab assignment, when one night Adam wants to go shoot some stuff. So they go off into the wilds of Florida, shoot some wild hogs, probably some other stuff, throw it in the back of Adam’s truck and drive back to town. They get pulled over by a wildlife officer who promptly notes the wild hogs weren’t a legal kill for some reason, and there is some issue with the guns. Kenny is worried because he thinks they’ll get in trouble with the team, but Adam tells him to be cool. He’s got it. The officer takes the IDs, goes to his truck, then comes back gushing to Adam about being a Cardinals fan, and lets them off with some autographed stuff that just happened to be prepositioned in the truck.

How long ago was this? Post 2020 you would have been bored to tears with stories about going to the WH to meet Trump.

I’ve seen a playoff game at Wrigley, so a WS game would be cool.
I’d love to see a World Cup match in a cool country, not one of the s***holes that have hosted recently.
A men’s game at Duke versus UNC in Cameron would be cool.

The Rose Bowl as a stadium is awful.

God it makes me mad still to think about it. I spent money 3 times on KF games; 2003 Orange Bowl, 2016 Rose Bowl and 2021 BTCG....

Next time I think of going, someone come euthanize me.

Thank god it was 2012, during the Olympic Trials. A big-money friend in NJ flew a few of us to Iowa City on his private jet and we VIP’d all week. Royce Alger was our chaperone, lol.
