What's something you had as a kid but probably no longer exists?

Moose Bros pizza. Made in little kiosks in the Hy Vee in my hometown. I assume they were in other Hy Vees too? Early to mid 90s. My parents would normally grab one or two most Saturday nights.

Got some hand me down JNCOs in the late 90s. Kinda embarrassed remembering how excited I was to get those.

I also really miss the Nickles Banana Flip and Hostess Banana Dream. I couldn’t remember the name of them which is why I didn’t post this first, but I ate the aitch out of these as an 80s kid. And yes, even as a little rugrat I got the gist of licking banana cream out of a golden taco.

This isn't just a stock photo of a random Family Video. This is the actual store I used to visit when I was a kid.

Although this was taken much later when it was declining. I can tell you that because the CVS in the background didn't used to be there. Neither was the Marco's Pizza

Grabbing the cover to see if there was a empty case behind it so you could rent the movie you were hoping to see. Renting PS2/PS3 games. Love Family Video.

I know one of these existed in Omaha in 2020 with the Marcos attached. Went there with my sister and her husband when they lived there. You could order your pizza, look for videos, pick up the pizza from the Marcos through a window in the family video and grab your rentals and leave. Not sure if it’s still there. The pizza was mediocre and the film selection wasn’t great but it had a lot of nostalgia and that video rental place smell that I’ll never forget.

It' is closed. They closed all their Brick and mortar stores at the beginning of this year.

Apparently they just sell DVD's and bluerays of movies online now.

Interesting thing about Family video is though is that unlike most businesses, it seems like the people who owned them planned for them to go out of business. I remember reading an article a few years ago about Family video and they knew that streaming was eventually going to take them out.

Apparently one of the things they always did was purchased the land and stores they operated out of and did not lease them. So now they are making money leasing to other people as well. They also I guess signed a deal with Marco's pizza to open up a bunch of franchises with the Family video. So the family owns those franchises still.

I worked at Hy-Vee during high school and a slice of that and a bottle of pop was my break food nearly every night. it was great when you could catch them as they were closing up and they would just give you the pizza to get rid of it.
