What's up with our Most Hated Rival? Nojel Eastern....he gone! Has entered Transfer Portal.

It's definitely unusual. I can't remember the last time they've had a significant contributor leave other than going pro early. Ohio State and Maryland have also seen a few transfers. If we can get a season in, I'm thinking it is a good time to be returning as much experience as we do. Teams breaking in new players are going to have to play through the learning curve with summer activities severely limited.

That's the guy that gave JBO fits. JBO couldn't get any space, the guy was so big and ate him up on the offensive end too.

Yeah he is a heckuva defensive specialist and I thought he had a big role for Painter. He will have a LOT of interest I think, unless there are academic issues.

Sounds like both were upset with their roles, but to me he used them well. Both Eastern and Haarms have limitations.

Eastern has committed to Michigan.

Boiler fans now can't wait for him to come back to Mackey.

As quickly as all of this happened, one might think there was some hanky pankin' goin' on.

Kind of surprised Michigan would take him, I would think they have better options. I guess it is just a one year fix, I don't really know their roster situation.

They were both surprises. Neither was expected to leave and talked with Painter multiple times. Without going into the work ethic speculation and tearing down the player, even though the rumblings have been there for a few months and painter touched on it in his interview (regarding the entire team, not just those two), I think a lot of it had to do with role and playing time. Haarms is going to be a senior and lost his starting role to Williams. It was going to be a dog fight to get it back. Eastern was likely to see his minutes diminish as well. He doesn't bring much offensively and Purdue has some super talented guards coming in that bring as much as him to the table.

Also, I recommend listening to the interview vs reading comments. Two totally different narratives. Reading makes painter sound awful. Listening tells you a totally different story.

Seem to remember his mother often posted on the Purdue Rivals board following games, demanding more playing time for her son.

I don't know....Anthony Tucker's dad was a blast to have on here. :)

And the Anthony Tucker's story didn't end well at Iowa either....maybe Anthony drank to forget that his dad visited a message board and had lots of conversations with you! I know that thought has run through my mind a few times.....
