VOTE: When Cade is healthy, will KF start him? Or, will KF start Sully & Rotate Cade in? Or, is it Sully's FULL TIME Job to Lose?

When Cade is healthy again, what will KF do?

  • Cade will start & Sully will be rotated in (like before)

  • Cade won't start but he will play (ie, he will be rotated in)

  • It is Sully's FULL TIME job to lose (ie, if Sully plays well vs Wisc, he's the Full Time QB1)

So... he won't even think about it when the backup is what's best for the team. But when his favorite is clearly second place, he'll openly talk about rotating.

to be fair, rotating Sully into last Saturday's game was the plan (ie, the plan was for Sully to get FULL series, not just red zone packages).

It all depends on how the offense looks moving forward with Sullivan.

If he turns back into a pumpkin for BAU can't have nice things reasons against Wisconsin, then yeah we will probably f***ing see Cade again.

Sully needs to take the reigns and not let go.

IMO, he really needs to have a great game against Wisconsin so there's no doubt how to move forward.

I think the current situation resembles the Padilla-Petras competition. Kirk used the Petras shoulder injury as excuse for why he could play Padilla and Padilla then had several starts and chance to win the job. Unfortunately, Padilla wasn't any good and Petras ended up winning the job back.

Now Kirk again claims McNamara is hurt and this is all part of his plan to work in more Sullivan anyway. Seems like a lame ego trip. I think Sullivan is much better athlete/size/arm strength >>> Padilla so I think Sullivan will be able to win the job and be setup as the man with Union card for next year.

McNamara losing his job is not a big deal. Sports is about competition and Kirk never cries when a CB or a RB or any other position gets replaced. It really is weird how much Kirk's ego is vested in sticking with his original QB decision. KIrk's mettling in the offense is what got his son fired, though it is also clear that both Brian and Kirk were not very good offensive minds.

Kirk showed signs of softening his stance on the QB situation even before Cade went out on Saturday. The ball now shifts to Sullivan's court and I expect him to make the most of the opportunity. Cade can help this team in a reserve capacity should he come back. Not sure I want to see rotating quarterbacks but we have a developing situation and much will depend on how things go Saturday night.

I expect that once Cade is able to play, Sullivan will be on an extremely short leash. Much shorter than Cade had (if he even had one).

Tim Lester really needs to be aggressive on his opinion. If Sully performs well & we beat Wisconsin, hopefully the choice is easy.

It's ridiculous on its face that the anointed starter has rope a mile long to f#$k up but when QB 2 moves up he better be great from the beginning or else.
It's perfectly reasonable to consider McNamara MIGHT see the field again in limited and specific circumstances. I just don't know if it's possible for KF to take a reasoned, nuanced approach when it comes to the qb position.

I just hope Sullivan gets a chance to utilize his strengths to their fullest. If Kirk/Lester are afraid of him getting hurt (which would leave Lainez as the next option), I could see them calling fewer RPOs and instructing Sullivan not to run on other plays.

It's not like Kirk hasn't reined in playmaking QBs in the past.

True, this is probably going to be the best we'll ever get to see of Sullivan. If he stays, he will probably look more statue-esque in 2025.

Sounds like Marco is hurt as well. Resar moved to WR and is also hurt. Sounds like someone named Jackson Stratton is next man in should Sully get hurt. So yeah, I don't know that I expect to see a lot of called QB runs....

Yep….neuter Sullivan from what he does best.

And Cade obviously has not been lighting it up.

In 8 games started this season:

104-172 (61%)
1,017 yds (127 yds/game)
6 TD
5 INT

Sully is such a weapon when he is a threat to run; now Wisconsin has to account for that.

Stratton transferred from Colorado State where he saw action in 4 games as a freshman. Did not play last year there. Think he redshirted. I doubt that Marco is hurt as he's listed as QB2 on the depth chart.

It would be a stupid move, obviously, because QB1 is very clear now.

But it very well could happen, based on what follows.

Whats he supposed to say? Cade will never see the field under any circumstances? Im all in on moving forward with Sully but he hasnt managed a whole game or even thrown downfield yet. The fact KF says he is comfortable with more than one qb is a major milestone in itself - progress! Nobody knows the future and Sully gets his shot. Wisky aint NW so if he holds his own (or better) he controls his own destiny. As the only feasible qb on the charts right now he may not be running as much as some would like.

Cade shouldn't get another snap. His football days are done. He should pay back some of the NIL money, not worth half of it. I wanted Sullivan to start 1st game of the year. Play for the future with Sully. And now Resar is a bust at qb...wtf.

If we can draw some inferences from interviews with Kirk and Tim, we hadn't seen much of QB2 Sully before last game because Tim wasn't sure how to utilize him besides red zone with Cade as QB1. After Cade struggled yet again in the first half at MSU, the plan was to play him for at least one series in the first half and then make a half-time decision regarding the rotation. The new plan was much like the one for McCann and Banks in 2001.
