Other thing the next dem admin should do is terminate all SpaceX leases on federal property. 39A, 40, 37( if they get it) and 4E in California. Would destroy SpaceX as they would have no place to launch from. Plus Starbase is super limited in the orbits it can fly due to populated areas all along the flight paths.

But a nearly $3B contract that has specific language to put DEI's on the moon?

Hell, IIRC their panties got tied in knots over something like a $40k comic book...
Did SpaceX request that language?

Aside from highlighting the last administration’s fealty to identity politics, what does that observation accomplish?

Did Space X object to the language or were they just happy to receive the billions in government money?

Go ahead and pretend to not understand why they sought and won the contract to put people in space.

Lean into this argument. Keep it fresh on everyone’s mind that the Democratic administration made this silly insistence part of the contract.

You’ve hit the winning formula.

My question is more around when is Elon going to get around to cutting this program?

First we should thank SpaceX for taking our US astronauts to and from the ISS instead of having to beg Russia for rides.
Sending the first woman and the first person of color to the moon sounds exactly like the type of DEI policies this administration hates so much, yet it still exists.

I just find it convenient that Elon gets to decide what gets to go and what doesn’t.

So we should borrow to keep making overseas trans comics and operas?

Let’a examine ALL the spending with keeping in mind the eternal debt burden it requires, and opportunity cost that entails.

No single raindrop holds itself responsible for the flood.

Let’s debate ALL the spending on its merits instead of just keeping the fire hoses going into everyone’s pet project, because ALL of them are somebody’s pet project.

You seriously don’t see the conflict in letting Elon decide spending while taking billions in funding himself?

I would look at it differently if he was the one always on the losing end, like Boeing being given a larger budget to (fail) to achieve the manned missions to ISS that SpaceX did, or the Senators from Amazon making sure that after losing the contest Blue Origin was given a few billion more to try match SpaceX to the moon.

If you want to go back to the Russians sending our people to the space station, say it. Otherwise, tell me what option you see when you bring this up.

Contract is a contract and he has a private company committed to executing. I doubt they care who NASA puts on the flight.

Now, he may decide it's not worthwhile as a member of DOGE, but I doubt it, people agree space exploration is important.

Fun little gotcha for TDSers, but inconsequential. It's ok, they need something to be happy about since they haven't yet progressed through the grief and acknowledged the positive musk is doing yet.

Do people not agree that a lot of the programs he’s targeted are not important?

Seems returning to the Moon and going to Mars isn't super important aside from geopolitical dick measuring. The technology isn't there for this to be profitable at all for the foreseeable future. Seems we can easily cancel this funding, help Americans now.

That’s up for debate, but not a debate that Elon should be weighing in on. Like any other program, Elon shouldn’t be the arbiter of who gets what. That’s the job of Congress and they’ve ceded power to Elon, who has an inherent conflict of interest. Fan boys don’t want to hear that though.

Certainly. But.. America first!*

*Except for funding that directly benefits me despite not being profitable anytime soon.

I would guess most things DOGE is reviewing are important and will remain. We're only hearing about the stupid stuff
Will see. That’s seems really questionable so far. It also seems really crazy that the guy who gets to decide directly benefits from said decisions.

Profitable? You didnt hear the pitch where tourism (to/on Mars) was going to get us there?

You aren't getting to trillions in savings by cutting budgetary popcorn farts. There are 2 main sources of spending, defense and SS/Medicare. The rest is floatsam.

NASA had to rely on the Russians to supply and man the ISS. Just sayin…
Sounds like the space station should die. Or we can fund Relativity, Blue Origin, or Stoke.

*aside - Nixon got this stupid shit rolling and killed deep space exploration. Thank god we've been screwing around in low Earth orbit for 40 years, great call Dick.
