Taken after Alabama squeaked a win out over Tennessee.

Saban is loved by his players. They have been smoking cigars after wins for sometime now. I do not see a problem with this especially after Bama players give their all in practice/games.

Just reaching here for you since you asked, only problem that I potentially see is smoking on a college campus with todays smoking laws. Just saying other wise probable fine, both grown men.
Not a bad guess, but the south is still very smoke friendly. At least that was my impression a few years back.

While this is the case in most states(Iowa included), I think some southern states are anything but progressive when it comes to smoking bans in public places, so I suspect maybe its still legal to smoke tobacco on Alabama's campus. If it isn't legal, just another case of football programs operating under a different set of rules down south :)

Not saying I have an issue with it all, I just know that with that tweet it could blow up into an issue.

But, everybody is trying to figure out how/why it could blow up into an issue. What's the concern/problem?

Non-issue? Tobacco use was banned in NCAA sporting events when I was in College. We had a liason for the AD talk about it with us at the start of every season.

See about 4th bullet in orientation section below:

o NCAA tobacco use ban during practice or competition.

So the pic was taken in the middle of the third quarter? I guess the issue there is why isn't Saban coaching an instead in the locker room while the game is going on.

It's a tradition for Bama when they beat Tennessee. Pretty sure it started before Saban. Technically it is probably an NCAA violation, but doubt they'll do anything, nor should they.

Alabama has a strict no smoking rule on the entire campus. I got yelled at for smoking on a street. I personally don't care and think it's fine if it's tradition. Tired of the pc bs.

How would locker room be acceptable & playing field not? You must be up 2n+1!

Sports facilities, team bus, playing field...it's all the same in the eyes of the NCAA

The winner of the Alabama-Tennessee has been photographed smoking cigars for years.
Smoking cigars, is, essentially, the traveling trophy.

Ok were they practicing or playing in the sports facility, team bus or playing field when the picture was taken? Seem to me the answer is no.

Here is Penn's guidance on tobacco
TobaccoThe NCAA prohibits the use of tobacco products by all game personnel (e.g., coaches, trainers, managers and game officials) in all sports during practice and competition.

The use of tobacco products by a student‐athlete is prohibited during practice and competition. A student‐ athlete who uses tobacco products during a practice or competition shall be disqualified for the remainder of that practice or competition.

Tobacco Ban ‐ No player, coach or game official may use any form of tobacco during practices or games in NCAA‐approved summer baseball leagues.

The Ivy League discourages the use of tobacco products in all activities related to athletics. The distribution of smokeless tobacco product samples in Ivy locker rooms is prohibited.

And here is the bylaw
Bylaw 17.1.8: The use of tobacco products by a student-athlete is prohibited during practice and competition. A student-athlete who uses tobacco products during practice or competition shall be disqualified for the remainder of the practice or competition.

Seems to me its pretty clear its banned in use of game or practice, but what you do outside of those is up to you.

I mean here some other bama players

The issue is that THE SMILE IS PHOTOSHOPPED. IT'S A FAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on, people, you're being LIED TO. The Alabama media machine may control the south, but it will never rule Iowa!
