Ok - I've done a thread like this for a couple years now (skipped last year). This is simply a thread about guys that were Hawks and eventually left the team (for whatever reason). For some reason I've always been interested to know what happens to these kids after they leave. I get that some of you don't care about kids that no longer want to be Hawkeyes. That's fine...move along. Otherwise, here is what I could run down on some of the guys, starting with the class of 2017.
If anyone has other updates that I might've missed (or forgotten), feel free to post them here. As we run into updates on the seasons for these kids, we can post updates in this thread as well. Enjoy (or don't).
2017:
Nate Wieland (ATH) ** - Originally a Northern Illinois commit, Wieland left Iowa after his freshman season and transferred to Iowa Western before eventually landing at Grand View
2019 (Iowa Western) - 8 total tackles
2020 (Grand View) - Earned 20-21 NAIA 1st Team All-American at Grand View - I couldn't find much more than some individual box scores (didn't look all that hard) but appears he had a great season
Kyshaun Bryan (RB) *** - Transferred in fall of 2018 - landed at Coffeyville and played 2019 - notes of offer from Akron after that but no record of him beyond 2019 - nothing in Twitter showing what he's up to now
2019 (Coffeyville CC) - 56 rush for 241 yds (long of 24), 2 TDs
Trey Creamer (DB) *** - Transferred after 2018 season and ended up at Ft. Scott CC and then Charlotte

Josh Turner (DB) *** - Transferred after 2018 season and ended up at FIU

Camron Harrell (DB) *** - Left Iowa and took a year off from school/football (worked at Little Caesars Pizza and was an Asst. Coach for HS FB team - Enrolled at College of DuPage before transferring to Southern Miss
2019 (College of DuPage) - 67 tackles, 3 INTs (111 yds), 16 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble - Also returned kicks and punts (not much to speak of), 1 TD on a blocked punt recovery
2020 (Southern Miss) - 21 tackles (4 TFLs), 1 sack, 0 INT, 3 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries, 31.4 AVG kick return (long of 100 yds - total 345 yds), 1 TD - Named C-USA Special Teams POW in December
Peyton Mansell (QB) *** - Transferred January 2020 to Abiline Christian after losing the backup QB battle to Petras in 2019 - Appears to still be on the roster for 2021
2020 (Abiline Christian) - 61.8% (102/165) for 1,224 yds, 5 TD, 4 INT, LNG 78, QB Rating 129.3
Levi Duwa (DE) *** - Left football program summer 2019 to focus on academics
Mark Kallenberger (OL) *** - Chose to end his football career in February and graduated in the spring.
Djimon Colbert (DB) *** - Opted out of the 2020 season and decided to step away from football completely in January 2021. He's focused on earning his degree this fall or winter.
Jacob Coons (TE) *** - Left the team in June of 2018, stating he was going to focus on academics. He joined the UNI football program January 2020.
2020 (UNI) - Saw action in 1 game
Coy Kirkpatrick (DE) *** - Battled injuries…rumors of medical hardship. Is listed on Linkedin as a Fareway Meat Associate.
2018:
Jayden McDonald (LB) *** - Announced transfer to Troy 2 weeks before the 2019 season. Sat out 2019 season due to transfer rules.
2020 (Troy) - 67 tackles, including 16 and 3 TFL in one game (Georgia State). 4 total TFL and 1 pass deflected.
Calvin Lockett (WR) *** - Entered the portal in November 2020 and announced he was joining Delta State U in June 2021.
Julius Brents (DB) **** - Entered the portal in December 2020 (to the surprise of many…injuries and playing time frustration???) and announced Kansas State as his new destination for 2021.
DJ Johnson (DB) *** - Entered transfer portal in May 2020 and chose Purdue in May 2020. DJ later opted out of the 2020 season and was no longer on the Purdue roster by March 2021. He recently (8/7/21) retweeted that he is in the transfer portal (again).
Samson Evans (ATH) ** - Entered the portal in May 2020 and landed at Eastern Michigan in June 2020. Side note: the EMU site bio says Samson played under Iowa Head Coach "Kurt" Ferentz.
2020 (EMU) - Played in 4 games with 41 rushing attempts, 202 yards (long 37), 1 TD, 6 receptions for 46 yards (long 17)
Henry Geil (RB) *** - Entered portal August 2019 and announced he was joining Independence CC in February 2020 (tweet since deleted). Cannot see that he was actually on the 2020 ICC roster and cannot find anything new on him.
Dillon Doyle (LB) *** - We all know the history of Dillon…left Iowa last summer and transferred to Baylor.
2020 (Baylor) - Started all 9 games. Honorable mention All-Big 12. 56 tackles, 2 TFL. 1 FF and 1 recovery. 1 sack and 1 pass deflected.
Jeff Jenkins (OL) *** - Decided to leave football January 2020 after being backup center. Entered name in transfer portal in May 2020, drawing interest mostly from MAC schools. I could not find confirmation that he ever transferred.
Tyrone Tracy Jr (WR) *** - Transferred to Purdue after the 2021 season.
2019:
Taajhir McCall (ATH) ** - Opted out of the 2020 season and is no longer on the roster. No known info on where he ended up.
Shadrick Byrd (RB) *** - Was in the portal by October 2020 (after the first game of the 2020 season). Transferred to Charlotte December 2020.
Daraun McKinney (DB) *** - Decided to transfer November 2020 and committed to South Dakota January 2021.
Yahweh Jeudy (LB) *** - Entered portal October 2020 after first game of 2020 season. No known info on where he ended up.
Jalen Hunt (DT) *** - Committed to Iowa and signed LOI but never enrolled due to academics. MSU (of course) was able to get him enrolled as long as he took care of 1 course. Redshirted 2019.
2020 (MSU) - 1 start, 5 tackles (2 TFL), 0 sacks
Jake Karchinski (DE) *** - Entered portal May 2021. No known landing spot.
Noah Fenske (OL) *** - Entered portal in April 2021 and committed to Colorado less than a week later.
Ezra Miller (OL) *** - Left football due to depression and anxiety (was originally announced as back injury). Later entered the portal in May 2020 and decided to walk-on at Nebraska in June 2020. Did not play 2020 season.
Oliver Martin (WR) **** - After transferring from Michigan to Iowa and getting a waiver for immediate eligibility, Oliver decided to transfer again after the 2019 season. He chose to walk-on at Nebraska and again received a waiver for immediate eligibility in 2020. He’s listed as a 5th year Junior.
2020 (Nebraska) - Played in 5 games starting in 4 and finished with 5 catches for 63 yards. He returned 1 punt for 7 yards.
Josiah Miaman (TE) *** - Announced his transfer in November 2021 and landed at FIU in January.
Desmond Hutson (WR) *** - Decided to transfer in November 2021 and announced he’ll be playing for UNI about a month later.
2020:
Michael Lois (DE) ** - We probably all know the unfortunate story of Michael's neck injury. He's enrolled at U of I. Good article on him below, which I think circulated on HR at the time.

Deuce Hogan (QB) **** - Transferred to Kentucky (walk-on?) at the end of the 2021 season after being third or potentially 4th string and a poor KF joke.
Quavon Matthews (WR) *** - Announced his transfer in October 2021 and has not found a landing spot yet.
