Where to tailgate at?

I haven't been to Kinnick since 2003 when I was 16. For an early Xmas present I bought my whole family twelve tickets to the iowa minnesota game on Nov. 14. I wanna give my whole family (we all live in MN now and my sister goes to Minnesota, so everyone but me, my dad, and my two boys are gopher fans....yuck) a great college football experience. We wanna get to IC by noon and do some tailgating. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go??

That will be a tough day to predict. There's an afternoon wrestling meet at Kinnick. Finkbine may be your best option, everything my already be full by then. Hancher is also decent for families if there is space.

The hard part to predict is what will still be open by noon. If the Hawks have a good record, it will fill earlier. You can call the parking office at 335-1475 or 335-8312 for more detailed informaiton. They would know 10x more than anyone on here.

Try across from the Vine. By the track/softball fields. That is a Fun group/area. That is, if you cannot get a parking pass close to the stadium. One note, if it rains the area by the track is limited to the gravel area, but there is still parking. And the other side of the softball fields is paved.

The Finkbine commuter lot is good too. Roughly the same walk to the stadium. Depending on where you park, the Track lot can be closer, as there is no direct route to Kinnick from the Finkbine lot. And you can cut thru the woods from the Track lot to Hawkins Dr.

Would it not be sweet if they added a foot bridge over the train tracks for the Finkbine lot?? They could TRIPLE the size of the lot to the north and east. And still keep a lot of green space.. That would be outstanding for hospital employees....and us football fans. :)

Actually I am surprised they have not done that. They really wouldn't need a foot bridge , considering the train track is so rarely used. But the bridge itself would not be that much in cost. It would be great for the 10,000 hospital employees!

The grass field across from the Vine is a tailgating hidden treasure. Big grassy area that rarely gets that full. Easy in and very easy out cause you don't have to go down Hawkins drive or Melrose. It's a bit of a walk to the game but it's a nice walk after that first hill. I'm always surprised this lot isn't packed. There's lots of room to spread out.
As previously mentioned, if it's wet at all you can't park on the grass and can only park in the gravel lot. That's how it was for the Pitt game but we backed up to grass and had another great tailgate for that game. It doesn't have the energy of Melrose or the lots right next to the stadium, but sometimes I like the more relaxed tailgating here.
