Got this from the Ohio wrestling board and find it an interesting question. Rank in order which guys who are #1 or undefeated will most likely stay that way through nationals:

125-Gillman 23-0
133-Nato 15-0
141- Heil 23-0
149- Zain 18-0
157- Nolf18-0
165- Martinez 23-0
174- Bo 11-0 / Valencia 31-0
184- Dean 25-0 / Nickal 17-0
197- Cox 19-0
285.-Snyder 9-0

I'd say most likely to least likely to be...

285
165
149
157
197
125
133
141
184 (valencia)
174 (Dean)

I think the top 6 guys are prohibitive favorites. I could see the rest losing.

Going from upset to no upset.
Bo Jordan
Dean Heil
Nathan Tomasello
Thomas Gilman
Isaiah Martinez
Gabe Dean (Gilman Imar and Dean are all very close. Basically have 1 guy contending with them)
Zain Retherford
Jden Cox(Cox and Retherford are very close as well)
Jason Nolf
Kyle Snyder

I fully expect from Gilman down to make the finals. I give NATO a 90% chance to make finals, Heil 65%, Jordan 45%. Of course the draw is everything and we have to see how conference tourneys play out especially with 174,141,133

I don't see anyone beating Zain, Nolf, Cox, Snyder, Nato, Martinez. Nickal and Dean will make the finals as will Gilman (Suriano scares me, if he has improved his offense it will trouble) Bo will lose, as will Heil.

I agree with NATO being grouped w the big 5. I don't think anyone comes close to him at nationals. Obviously, I hope I'm wrong but what u see is what u get

If you are going to pick an upset, I would think the match in which Nickal is the underdog would be the likely choice. Also, we need to remember that PD3 said Dean would lose this year at nationals. That is like the forces of the universe lining up against a guy. Who could overcome that?

Nickal, bo, NATO all going down at nationals

I think 285, 197, 157, and 149 are mortal locks barring the Earth changing its spin. Both because of the quality of the guy at the top and the separation they've made with the rest at their weights.

165 and 133 are near locks, but the way they wrestle closer matches sometimes gives me pause.

125 is a very strong lean towards Gilman. A month ago he would have been a lock, but recent performance makes me hedge a bit. Still like him to win though, and would be surprised if he didn't.

141, 174, and 184 are up for grabs.

Don't know why everyone thinks 133 is a lock. I think there are 4 guys that could win the weight and we haven't seen NATO vs Clark Brock or Gross so there's no way of knowing. And Zain is where he is on my list because of the close match with BS. That's why I mentioned we have to see how conference tourneys play out. I fully expect Zain to widen the gap at big tens because I feel like he learned more from the last meeting. But if they meet at nattys I expect BS to learn more from the big ten match and close the gap or possibly pull out the W. Time will tell.

174- Bo [injured and regardless, wasn't a lock]
125-Gillman [not concentrating]
133-Nato [blah]
141- Heil [blah]
184- Dean [could get beat by whats-his-name]
149- Zain 18-0 [flu going around]
165- Martinez 23-0 [great competitor]
157- Nolf18-0 [I think he's a lock]
285.-Snyder 9-0 [nobody beats him but could get pinned]
197- Cox 19-0 [lock of all locks]

Cox has way too many close matches to be considered a lock. IMHO
After the match at CHA, I would say there is some doubt as to the certainty of Zain.
I would not bet the house on Nickal winning, but I wouldn't bet the house on Dean winning either.
Nato and Jordan are probable and probably not respectively in my mind.
Heil in my opinion would be minor miracle to repeat and if he does, he is one mentally tough SOB.
Gilman is going to be on a mission. I have a bad feeling for him though. Last month he looked like superman, this month not so much. I am going to guess he is a bit under the weather and too proud to let anyone know.
Martinez seems to have adjusted well to the new weight. You have to pick him to repeat.
Snyder is going to need an act of God to not repeat.
Nolf I think is the most likely of all to win it. If I hd to predict the guy who would win in and I had to bet my house and family on it, it would be Nolf.

Yes he will, and his name would be Nickal.

I have said heil is not a lock for 2 straight years - but he just KEEPS winning:/ he is a lock.

Gross has upset power - but not natty title strength

If Clark wasn't injured I'd give him a chance at beating Nato. I don't think anyone else can beat Nato. BS will not beat Zain I wish and hope he does but!!!!!

I'd say BS chances are slim but all it takes is keeping it close and who knows you could catch a quick 2 count and make that the difference. Look at Mark Perry vs Hendricks. Perry hung around and got a quick 2 count to seal the deal. Not that BS rides like Perry to be in that situation but maybe catch him on a td.

i don't think it will be brandon who beats zain this year

Order of locks to not so locks

1) Nolf
2) Snyder
3) Dean
4) Cox
5) retherford
6) IMar
7) Gilman
8) NATO
9) Heil
10) Bo Jo

Upset specialists
Z Valencia, Nickal, Brooks, Gross, Massa, Kasper, Suriano, Sorensen, Jack, McKenna, Ashnault, Pfarr

I don't disagree that Zain may have learned something. I would think that B Sorenson learned something as well, that being he can score points vs Zain and take him down.

Now if we are sticking with the flu thing(BTW, nice work Snizhawk :)), then maybe my point is moot.

GO BS!!

GO HAWKS!!

Kemdawg plays the villain and takes one from nolf when it counts

1.)Nolf-There just isn't anyone near his level. Kemerer and Berger will be battling for a distant 2nd with Smith a spoiler.
2.)Snyder-Again there is no one near his level.
3.)IMar-Many thought going up would make him vulnerable. So far he owns the field. Has a Dake-like "IT" factor.
4.)Retherford-Last year, I thought he was the best DI wrestler. He has shown some vulnerabilities so far this season.
5.)Dean-I know Nickal has been on fire, but Dean is....THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS!
6.)Cox-I know a Freestyle OLY Medalist should be higher, but he looks like he mails to many matches in and Moore and Pfarr are not far behind.
7.)Gilman-He has looked rough lately, but even being rough, there isn't anyone at 125 that can beat him in a 7min match.
8.)Heil-He may win ugly, but a win is a win and he has a lot of them.
9.)NaTo-I hate to even have NaTo as the most likely champ at 133, but Clark's injury is impossible to ignore.
10.)BoJo-He has a foot issue that won't go away, has Valencia and Hall, just had his 2nd kid and has barely wrestled. He seems like a great kid and I would rather see him win it than the others, but he has a boatload of stuff to overcome!

I have it the same way as this except Im moving Dean above Cox and anyone who does not have Snyder as the top lock is a screw:confused:
On a side note I think Nickel does not even make the finals Kemdog is gonna gets us on the edge of our seats

If Nickal dosn't make the finals(and win) it's because he'll get stuck with a super aggressive move to pin. He won't lose standing around. Hold on haters, I'm a Hawk for life that just loves watching bull-rush wrestlers.

Yeah I get you on that but I think Dean is one of the most unbeatable guys this year and there is no one more bullish than him.. IMO I hoping for a Dean - Brooks final two bulls

Put Kemdawg in the upset specialists. He is still growing into the weight and getting stronger every week. Snyder is my only lock with Cox a close second due to how weak 97 is. Nolf, Gman, and Zain would be in the next tier. Maybe put IMAR in that tier. The others flip a coin on if they will win.

The correct answer is all of them except for 125.....because they're all losing to Iowa wrestlers who will then win the finals and the championship.

That's why.

Who does everyone think is the biggest threat to the undefeated guy at each weight?

125- Gilman, biggest threat Suriano. Some might say Lizak after their last match, but I think it is Suriano

133- NATO, biggest threat Gross. Gross seems to have had everything come together this year.

141- Heil, biggest threat- Joey Ward. Ward has numerous wins over Heil in his life, including Heil's last loss, 2 in high school and 2 in college. Problem is Ward I don't think can beat McKenna, DiCamilo, Kolodzik or Jack.

149- Zain, biggest threat- Collica. Collica seems to have found the missing piece to his game this year evidence being his win over Sorensen.

157- Nolf, biggest threat- Kemerer, the drop off is big after Kemerer in my opinion.

165- IMar, biggest threat- Issac Jordan, the guy is a gamer and he is the only guy at this weight who can handle the strength that Imar brings. Problem is I don't think Jordan gets past Massa and could even lose to Joseph.

174- BoJo, biggest threat- Valencia-Duh

184- Dean, Biggest threat- Nickal, Duh

197- Cox, Biggest threat- Moore. Most would say Pfarr as he handily beat Moore early this year, but Moore, unlike Pfarr I believe had quite bit of room for growth, and I think he has improved dramatically. I think both are distant behind Cox though.

Hvy- Synder, Biggest threat- Medberry. Some might say Walz, but I think it is Medberry, but he has very little shot.
