White to Germany

From the article:

" ....The Wizards like him as a “stretch four” — a forward who can run the floor and extend defenses on the perimeter — but the 6-foot-9, 220-pound native of Strongsville, Ohio, could use more seasoning to develop his outside shot."

Just what I anticipated. White has NBA appeal if he can become a legitimate scorer beyond 15 feet. He can score from outside but he needs develop consistency. He sounds very confident about his future with the Wizards. I dated a German girl for about 6 months when I was 25 ..good times:D

Grantland just posted an article about the interrelationship between the NBA and Europe and how it presents a bunch of different challenges and opportunities.

Good stuff.

Most German natives that I've met (a very limited number to be deemed representative) prefer wine over beer. Except Bavarians - beer for breakfast. beer for lunch, beer, beer, beer.

White is viewed as a stretch 4 but he was 0-9 from 3 in the summer league. Hopefully he will have a good shooting coach in Germany and he can make the Wizards roster eventually.

Lived in Frankfurt am Main for a year - Hessians love their "apple wine" (or as they call it, "The Stuff"), and also a good Riesling. Beer was mainly for planned celebrations - parties and such.

The shittiest beer I've ever had was in Germany, too. Plastic bottles found in small convenience stores. They call it "Pennerbier", which is basically "Old homeless guy beer." ****ing awful.

I taught on the USAG in Bamberg for the spring semester right after I graduated college. You ain't lying about the Geman girls. Super hot and they seemed to be attracted to the "fat Mel Gibson", such as myself. I fully understand they just wanted to use me for the Visa, but it was certainly fun while it lasted! It amazed me how the communities in Bavaria simply stopped early to mid afternoon for a beer. Had GREAT beer too. Got offered a job for $38,000/year (tax free) with full Military benefits and a rent free place on base. I had my fun (or so I thought) and wanted to come home so I turned it down. 23 years old...WTF was I thinking??

While living there I roomed with a girl who was a Naval brat from Japan. She was showing me some of her pictures from high school and I noticed they were all wearing "Kinnick Football" shirts and hoodies. I said, "Kinnick...as in Nile Kinnick?" She replied, "yeah...Nile C. Kinnick. I don't know he was some Naval Pilot who crashed his plane and died. The Navy names their schools after Navy heros. You know him?" I about crapped my pants. Pulled up some pictures of Kinnick Stadium and explained who he was and what a hero and legend he is here. She was really cool. Fun to party with and had a full back tattoo of Carmen Electra as a mermaid sitting on some rocks with water splashing around her, it was pretty damn impressive.

Did you ever get to experience Holzar Bier? Best beer I've ever had. It was a festival beer so it was kind of hard to find.

Don't think I ever had the pleasure. Made it out to Oktoberfest and had some local stuff around Ffm but Holzar doesn't ring a bell. To be fair, though, I had a LOT of beer/alcohol back then - there's a chance those particular memories are now in the big File Not Found area of my brain.

Yeah, Euro shot night fogged some memories for me too. Not sure what the exchange rate is now, but back then it was close to 1:1. Not sure how I made it home from the Irish Pub a few times. Thank God for the friends I made! My family came to visit me and my sister who was 19 at the time (no pic) wasnt' used to the strength of the beer and being able to drink bars legally. She lost the entire next day sleeping off a massive hangover, and I mopped puke off her floor 3 times. I only got sick twice. My first night there and my last night there! Haha!
