Who do you think wins the National Title?

Seems like just about everyone is picking a Zag Illannoy final with the Zags winning. I haven't done my bracket, but those are the two best teams going in. I'm curious whether Livers will be back to full strength or at all by the second week.

If I had a crystal ball, which I don't, I'd love for my Hawkeyes to make it to the final four, but my gut tells me that Gonzaga and Illinois will be playing for the National Championship, and before I throw up on myself I'm picking Illinois to bludgeon the Zags into submission....that's my final answer!

I have zags over OSU, I think Illinois has one bad game and it does them in.

I've got Illinois.

Illinois is doomed. This many Iowa fans picking them is the kiss of death. Hopefully today's game woke them up to the possibility that they can lose. I'd like an honest opinion on how well anyone here thought they played today. Ayo didn't look good. They didn't feed the post well after the start. The bench was great. That's my take. Was that game national championship good?

I thought they blew it on feeding the post for sure. Ayo seems to think he can do anything and he can't. Today showed he gets carried away. I think they may learn from this because they can be the best team in the tournament. Cofi fouls like a maniac though and that's going to get called now that he doesn't have big ten refs ignoring his mugging every play. It depends on if they adjust to different officiating.

Washington out played Ayo and he took some 3s late in the game that surprised me, like he lost a little confidence in his drive.

Illinois plays ultra-aggressive defense, which I am a fan of. Only problem is that they could get a group of refs that call the game tightly. Running into foul trouble is their biggest obstacle.

Ayo is really, really good but he can sort of disappear at times or try to do too much. I still think your guards combined with Cockburn make you really dangerous. I kind of felt like you did some stupid stuff when up 17 when you could have just slammed the door on OSU. The game was really good at the end but I think Illinois needs to go inside out more in those situations.

Also. Bashanasvili (or however you spell it) is okay in spells but if Cockburn goes down or in foul trouble he could be a liability.

I'm pretty sure Alford has been bounced in the first round as a 3 seed 3 times.
Only twice (Iowa '06 and NM '13).
However, his NM team in '10 won 30 games, got a 3 seed, actually won their first round game, and benefited from 11 seed Washington winning their first game over the 6 seed...but also got upset by them.
Yeah, his post-season record as a player was slightly better than as a coach...

I miss Doyle on the BTN and thought he was informative and he appeared to like the Hawks, but he is out of his mind, I'm not saying the Iowa can't beat the Zags, but without a second big man to back up Garza it will be the biggest upset in the tournament if it happens.
Garza only has 5 fouls to give, we know he could very well get his average in points and rebounds but he won't be able to defend Timme or inside the paint like he could if he had a reliable backup. And to match the Zags on offensive it's going to take a herculean offensive effort by Bohannan, Fredrick, Wieskamp, and Keegan to pull off a major upset.
If Iowa could get some offensive production from Connor, Toussaint, or Patrick and not just 2 or 3 points that would also help but that's a crap shoot at best.
Live turnovers is another scary subject, as we saw in the game against Illinois all it takes are a few unnecessary live turnover and game over. Iowa guards need to be at their best.
Of coarse there's this obstacle Iowa has to overcome....like winning 3 games before we even talk about Gonzaga

Since there have been no undefeated teams since ‘76, the percentages say don’t pick Gonzaga to win it all.

Didn't pick UNLV in '91 and didn't pick Kentucky in '15 (or Wichita St in '14, for that matter). There's a reason no team has gone undefeated for 45 years now and only 7 have done it in history - it's a really hard thing to do.

Maybe the best mascot ...

In filling out my bracket, I don't know what to do with Michigan. They've been pretty pedestrian in their last few games. Could a team like FSU (I haven't seen them play) beat Michigan?

Ohio State was one blown layup away from beating Illinois. Ayo missed 3 low percentage shots in the last minute or so. Liddle had Kofi one on one at the foul line 3 times and settled for jumpers when he should have drove and possible fouled him out. Kofi's FTs may cost them. Ayo's arrogance may cost them. As always ( or as usual ) toy need to be good and a little lucky...

I think my reasoning was pretty accurate.

Last night showed why I liked Iowas draw against Gonzaga allot more than getting Baylor.

Slim chance vs no chance.
