I'm still trying to figure out how you hurt yourself with a peeler. It isn't that complicated.
First time I used one I was holding it backwards. It was pretty embarrassing.

I notice when they show people peeling on TV and in movies that often they are do it towards themselves, I guess not to make a mess. I peel away, into a sink covered with a bag to collect the peels.
