You're right, the other 99.9% of football coaches are wrong, and Kirk made a great decision. Just look at the result.

As painful as the previous 59 minutes had been, we still want to extend the game in that situation. Kick the extra point and you're still in it. Miss the two-point conversion and the final minute is meaningless. Yes, you still need to make the two-point, but wouldn't you rather make the attempt after getting an onside kick, hitting a few quick completions, gain some momentum, and getting the defense questioning themselves? Or would you rather give up? Looked to me like Kirk would rather give up.
