So far this year, excluding December, 19.7 million background checks have been initiated. That is over 775,000 more than any other year, including what Fortune reported to be a record-breaking Black Friday. Every month since May has seen a record number of checks, and December will likely be no different.

Gun sales have been going up almost every year for the past decade, nearly doubling from 2007 to 2014. This year alone, they have increased every single month since June, and December is generally the biggest month for sales each year. Firearm sales also tend to rise following a mass shooting, such as the San Bernardino tragedy. Vox predicts that all of these factors will collide to result in the biggest month for gun sales on record.

The FBI records each time a background check is requested in order for an individual to purchase a gun or explosive through its National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). These records don’t account for rejected buyers, multiple guns purchased by a single buyer, or loopholes that circumvent the need for a background check.

Many attribute rising gun sales to rising discourse about gun control, especially thanks to the election year.

This can even be underestimating gun sales. In Nebraska we use a permit to purchase, it is good for 3 years. It only requires 1 background check to receive it. After that we can purchase as many guns as we like with no further checks in that 3 years. If we have a conceal carry permit we can use that in place of a permit to purchase.

The more they sell the safer I feel, at some point a lawful carrying gun owner will confront a mass murder and end the carnage before it basically starts.

Sorry, but to make that claim meaningful, you would have to eliminate all the accidental and heat-of-the- moment gun deaths that will occur whilst we await your wet dream of a day.

Accidents are accidents and heat of the moment shootings are considered crimes, what part of that can't you understand.

We have 300 million guns that are owned by lawful gun owners I hope that number goes to a billion in the next 2 years.

Fear mongering by the NRA and the gun industry has been the greatest gun salesmen in history.
No, the liberal left who wants gun control and possibly an all out ban and the practicing Islamic in the White House are responsible for the average Joe wanting to purchase something to protect their family.

Actually, irrational fear is the best gun salesman. Fear of Obama taking your guns and fear of the boogeyman.
But why would you care what your neighbor has in their gun safe are you the frightened child scared of a boogeyman?

It appears to be the liberal left has an anti gun agenda and for what purpose?

Showing any concern for record gun sales should maybe show you how well the gun manufactures have trained you through their NRA lapdog.

Who said I cared? Who said I'm anti-gun? This irrational fear that everybody is out to get your guns is exactly what I'm talking about.

I have two neighbors who are military, and it makes me quite comfortable knowing they have quality guns and are well trained.

As I said before the American public owns some 300 million guns I hope that number triples or hits 1 billion in the next 3 years.

That would make me feel 100% safer.

Jeez, I have to pay more attention. I thought I was arguing with ICU; I didn't notice this was our troll of the month.

Typical liberal depending on someone else to protect you while you complain about the NRA, gun makers and the type of gun people purchase with their hard earned money.

You probably bitch about the police until you need one.

It has already happens. Only a fool would count on the police to protect them. The

To remove opposition to the government.

And that Hillary has openly talked about gun confiscation in her stump speeches........ Obama has openly talked about bans on certain weapons platforms. So to say that the "threat" hasn't been thrown out there, is disingenuous.

Yeah all of those actually. Maybe it's easier to list the wrong reasons. Which is basically to cause harm to others.

And the wrong reasons? Account for 0.00035% of all gun owners......including criminal activity, accidents, and suicides.
But you know.....it's out of control.......(because the media reports on every negative story they trip on)

Oh yeah I bet that is the reason for less violent crime and not our insane incarceration rate.

So you choose to ignore the study that was done by Harvard in 2007 and multiple studies since then that show statistically what I've stated.. I guess that's your prerogative. Gun Murders are at their lowest point since 1981. Gun Robberies are down, and continue to drop. Aggravated assaults using guns is down. Ownership is at it's highest since 2001. Cities that have C&C permits and open carry continue to see the lowest gun violence rates in the country.......and our "gun free zone" cities continue to see the highest rates of murder and assault by guns. Care to explain that?

It has NOTHING to do with out incarceration rates...and i don't think you'll find any studies that suggest that.........

Legal gun ownership is not the problem in this country. Figure out how to get the guns out of the hands of the criminally minded and the insane.........then we can have a discussion.

You guys blaming the NRA and irrational fear because "no one wants to take your guns" are no longer valid talking points for you. So you can stop that bullshit now.

The left is out front and center wanting to ban guns. So go **** yourself with using the NRA as your bogeyman. The left is the true bogeyman and Hillary and BHO are the cheerleaders.

Weak

Stop using that bogus crutch. It is proven that the left wants to ban guns and are finally vocalizing it front and center instead of slithering under rocks attempting to take away rights behind closed doors and denying their actions.

Those days are over.

Again, it's not "irrational fear". It's fact. The left wants to ban guns and take away rights.

Just like Obama's attempt to take away 2a rights to anyone whose name they put on a list with no due process. No evidence. Just put on a list
A list that has proven to be extremely inaccurate. Extremely prone to abuse and misuse.

We can't trust the left with the IRS how the hell can we trust you guys with 2a rights?

Answer? We cant.

Not to mention the NY times with a front page editorial calling for banning guns. The first front page editorial since before the world wars. (Not much has happened since then, right? Nothing else worth a front page editorial. ...right?)

Why would the average guy living in suburbia need to own a gun? Statistically, it makes him and his family less safe.

It must be ignorance or fear or a combination of both.

That's your problem. You don't like guns so you think YOU KNOW what is best for everyone. That you are smarter than the rest. Sorry bub. Your arrogance, fear and insecurity mean nothing to me.

My family is much more safe knowing that I can protect them if I ever had to. I likely and hopefully never will have to but just knowing I can is what is important.

Statistically, I will likely never need a fire extinguisher either but I have one of those too

Ask those folks in San Bernardino if they would have preferred that 1 or 2 people in that room would have been armed.

As I said before, guys like you are the ones I think about after a shooting. I always hope that if there have to be a victim that the victim was an anti gunner like you and that your last thoughts were "I wish I had a way of protecting myself right now "

Yiur family is much less safe since you own a gun. You're much more likely to shoot them than an intruder.

Sorry you hate unpleasant facts that don't fit your agenda.

Right. I only came here to rile up arb, but his counterparts got all excited. I'm most certainly not coming for your guns. Gun enthusiasts getting enthusiastic BAU

Maybe YOU aren't coming for guns but the clowns you voted for and will be voting for certainly are.

You can claim that all you want but the facts are, your media and party are no longer hiding it. They want to ban guns. Period. Own up to it
