Why can’t I learn my lesson…

I would counsel anyone who is considering getting an In-and-Out burger any time soon to save both time and money. Their's are the most overrated burgers in the land.

Just tried 5 guys for the first time a month ago. About $50 for the 4 of us to eat. Burger was fine but nothing special. Fries were average at best. My girls got the hot dogs and didn't eat more than a bite. I thought it was because it was cut differently (they are 4 and 2 so weird about food) but after I took a bite I realized that it was the worst hot dog I've ever eaten. Tastes like straight salt and whatever the rub was they put on was not good.

Will never go back.

Average/bad food is irritating, but it’s infuriating when you drop a bunch of money on a crap meal. Those are the meals that make you start cooking at home more often.

100%. We really don't eat fast food often but if I get a crappy burger, stale bun, no cheese or hardly any BBQ sauce on my Burger King burger, it's still a buck. Paying almost $10 for a horrible hotdog made me angry.

Zombie Burger was my favorite amongst the Burger-Specialist-Step-Up-From-McD's/Wendy's type restaurants.
Agree Five Guys is overpriced and not worth it.
Used to enjoy the Hardee's Frisco Burger quite alot...maybe I should try one of those again.

they only way you get a decent burger anywhere is if they will cook it medium or medium rare. Shorts used to do it. Otherwise you are getting scorched burger masked in bacon and dressings and sauce to mask dry tasteless burger.

Grill your own.

Good to know. Since I moved to where I currently live about five years, I eat burgers/sandwiches at a couple local places close to home and work.
Ive found decent burgers at the local places at a much higher rate than almost any chain. There are three bars that serve excellent burgers (and fries) within 6 or 8 miles of my home.

Funny thing is, the “flame broiled burger” the king used to churn out in the 80’s is what I think I’m always hungry for and can’t find. It could very well be that I’m misremembering how great they were.
I will support you. As much crap BK gets, and as much as I think some of their menu items are gross, the whopper is pretty good. Culver’s is my favorite, but not as available nationally. Never had 5 guys or in and out. Never had bbops either, although I’ve been meaning to try it.

I love 5 Guys myself, but have to be in the mood for a gut-busting, one-meal day soaked in grease. Go in expecting that and you aren't disappointed.

For what you are talking about though --- "a quick burger that tastes like a real open flame cooked burger" --- I really think a Culver's cheeseburger is just about perfect. Always cooked to order, always delicious, definitely has the flavor you're looking for.

Culver’s is delicious but aren’t they essentially made on a griddle and basically pan fried?

$50 for 4 people is pretty good cost wise. Not if the food is bad though.

While I love a good burger, trying to get a good burger at a fast food place isn't "fast" any more. The last time I tried the nearest Culver's, it took me 33 minutes from ordering until food in hand (just about 2 years ago, October 2020). I hadn't tried again until this past June (nearby Wendy's) and it took almost 20 minutes.

I rarely even try to get "fast food" any more as a result. About the only regular (once every 1-2 months) carry out food I do get is at my local Joensy's - there I'm in and out in under 10 minutes, every time.

Is joensy’s the place owned by the ISU basketball star’s dad?

Not n Iowa, but if you get a chance , Moo Yah is pretty good for a chain burger and their fries don't suck. You should get out for there for around $12 unless your a sow.

Dude, there are people here who purport to think Ruth’s Chris sucks.
I once had a steak from Ruth's Chris that did suck... ordered medium and half of the filet was very well done. My better half had a very good steak. Gave it one my try and service was terrible. There are too many good steak places to choose from in Atlanta...

I was so excited when the 5 Guys came to Coralville. Got a Bacon Cheeseburger and Fries for me and one of the kids. $35? KMA. Burger was average at best, fries were bad. I honestly don't know how they've stayed in business this long. I'll second the Whopper. As far as a stand alone burger it's pretty hard to beat.

To clarify my original post, the burger is fine. The fries are decent. What makes Five Guys suck (the franchise, not the food) is the combination of decent but average food and ultra high prices, especially compared to other options.

Believe so. Not sure if he owns all the stores though. The store I frequent is the SW CR store and for some reason I think he's Lisbon or Solon maybe?

I personally don’t think any burger and fries are worth $20. We have a n’hood burger place and for $14 you get a very good double burger and fries or rings. It’s not flame broiled, however.

If you want to get a fast food cheeseburger which I only recommend after a good night of drinking Culvers is the best and it's really not even close. Through in a side of cheese balls while your at it.
