Why is it so many journos are lefties?

I lean liberal yet don't "adore" abortion or illicit drugs, but rather thinks the government overreach in controlling those decisions people make has caused far more harm than good. How come conservatives talk like they hate big government, and then want them to control our very own decisions with our own bodies at no matter the cost?

I also love football and my biggest liberal friends do to, so really your thread isn't actually a question but the ravings of a village idiot. ;-)

Inquisitiveness about the way the world works isn't really a conservative characteristic. They think they already have the common sense to know what they need to know. Conservatism is about standing up for authority (even if they bitch a big game about big government) and keeping things the way they are.

First and foremost because it's a self-perpetuating bias. Leftism is so common among journalists that it breeds more leftists. And journalism school faculties are as far left as most other liberal arts disciplines.

Second, a lot of young people are attracted to the career out of a desire to "do good," which usually means espousing causes seen by most people as left-wing, or at least liberal. Few people decide to become reporters out of a desire to expose government restrictions that are hurting commerce, ,for instance.

Marxism (see Cuba/N. Korea/China/former USSR/etc.) isn't a fan of our First Amendment. This helps to explain why American liberals do not believe in the marketplace of ideas. If they did campuses would look and feel different.
