Why is the Big 4 not televised other than ESPN 3?

Can someone provide some insight into why this event is not aired on local or cable TV? I would think sponsors would line up for an event like this and it would almost ensure faces glued to television sets for 5 hours. Big opportunity missed for all 4 teams to be showcased across the state.

I just noticed that, too.

I see Iowa State and UNI is on ESPN U, but Iowa is relegated to some streaming broadcast.
Who are the frickin idiots who make these decisions?

Agree that this is a slight travesty. The Number 1 BB program in the HAWKEYE state
isn't on Espn 3 or some cable option? Iowa should pull out of this thing, next year, as
a response. Ridiculous

Unfortunately, this weekend marks the return of college basketball with a lot of good matchups to top off the preconference season. Lot of teams, like Iowa, had the week off for finals. It is also the kickoff of the football bowl season. Drake vs Iowa is just not that attractive when taking everything into consideration.

I'd rather not have to go through the computer to watch a game. Plus, you can't watch it on other tvs in the house.
Sure you can, just have to have the proper setup. The streaming is excellent these days, if you have a computer with any guts at all. TV is always the preference, but watching anywhere is better than not at all. IMO of course.....................

That said, as a young man I used to love just listening to Iowa Basketball on the radio, while attending some all day wrestling meet. Most of the Males in attendance were doing the same thing. It was quite the deal when the Hawks were in a battle with another good team coming down to the wire! The whole gym would be buzzing. Good times.

I grew up listening to the Hawkeyes on the radio and the volunteer announcer, my Dad, screaming at Olson for every coaching mistake he made...such as a player missing a free throw. I know...don't ask me to explain what was unexplainable. Just, folks, try to understand my PTSD when I get touchy...:)

If Iowa is that years host it will either be on BTN or ESPN if they choose to pick the game up. When Drake or UNI is the host team it will be on ESPN3 as all MVC games are streamed on it.

If the Hawkeyes had beaten Iowa State earlier this month,
they would be ranked in the top 25 and their game against
Drake would be on TV.

Not true. This game was always going to be on ESPN3 as there is zero national audience for Iowa and Drake. They rotate which teams are the "host" which this year is Drake. That means the MVC holds the TV rights. That's why the game is on ESPN3

No it wouldn't. The tv schedule has been set for awhile. Too many other big games on tv today to compete.

None of the factors you listed have affected Drake vs. Iowa being on TV before.

The reality is that the advent of internet streaming has forever changed the landscape of college basketball. Such a shame. For years and years this game was on TV.

I guess as we evolve, we also regress.

Oh, and it might help if Iowa would close out a damn game and be ranked.

I'm a brain scientist, not a computer and multimedia expert.

In the GRAND ol days, every IOWA HAWKEYE BB game was on the Hawkeye network. All of them on every time. The young pups don't understand all that has been lost to 'progress'
Kind of sickening really

$$ drives everything in high level college sports, especially TV $$. And the way the P5 are trending, it's only going to continue/increase.

Wrong. Iowa could be unbeaten and #1 and this asinine event would still be on ESPN3. As other have said, Iowa isn't the host team and the tv sched has been set for awhile.

You also have the Div 1 and Div 2 tournaments eating up a lot of ESPN space.

As the last best hope for mankind, I am going to turn on
my radio and listen to Gary Dolphin and Bobby call the
Iowa-Drake game.

I'm no expert either, but I can setup a Roku and actually have it work! There are a lot of options, some are fairly inexpensive (you can get a nice Roku for $100) as I know everybody doesn't have thousands of dollars to throw around for all the bells and whistles out there today. I know some of these things are predicated on having ESPN and/or BTN on your cable and things of that nature as well (and my cable is expensive as hell).

I have a relatively good sized monitor, so the games show up real nice, even though I would prefer to not sit at the computer as well. I also have a Roku, so I can stream to the TV if necessary and not interrupting some Law and Order re-run for The Female......................... There are a lot more expensive setups than what I have, but it works great so no need to alter what works.

And for those that aren't "in the know", invite friend or family over to hook it up, then show you how to use the remote. Pretty reliable once they are hooked up from my experience.

buy a Chromecast (like $35), project your phone or computer to your TV... if you didn't know you were streaming to your TV you'd think it was being televised...
