Nancy Churchill shares how Batya Ungar-Sargon lays out the argument for being a MAGA leftist
For years, the political establishment has insisted that the Left and the MAGA movement are irreconcilable forces. This is a lie. In a recent fascinating interview with Bill Mahar, Batya Ungar-Sargon explained that Trump’s policies align with traditional Democratic economic and anti-war views. Ungar-Sargon explains that she has never been a Republican; that she’s a leftist — but she’s a MAGA leftist!

Ungar-Sargon, the deputy opinion editor of Newsweek, argued President Trump’s agenda and policies are closer to traditional leftist values than the policies of the progressive-globalist elites now controlling the Democratic Party. She’s concluded if leftists truly care about socially moderate policies, the end to the “forever wars”, and working-class empowerment, they have every reason to align with the MAGA movement.

Trump: The Anti-War President

Trump was the first president in decades not to start a new war. He opposed the forever wars that have drained America’s resources and sent working-class soldiers to die for elite interests. His administration prioritized diplomacy over military adventurism—historic peace agreements in the Middle East, de-escalation with North Korea, and a resistance to the military-industrial complex’s endless thirst for conflict. Meanwhile, the modern left, which once stood against war, now cheers for endless foreign intervention under the guise of “democracy-building.”

Socially Moderate, Not Extremist

Contrary to the media’s hysteria, Trump is not a hardline social conservative. His record proves he is a moderate. He was the first Republican president to enter office openly supporting gay marriage and appointed figures like Richard Grenell, the first openly gay cabinet member, and Scott Bessant at the Treasury.

On abortion, Trump holds a centrist stance, supporting legal access up to 12 weeks, a position more moderate and more mainstream than the Democratic Party’s push for abortion until birth. While the progressive leftists radicalize toward extremism, MAGA’s social policies reflect the broad middle ground where most Americans stand.

The Champion of American Workers

Free trade, once the sacred dogma of both parties, has devastated the working class, shipping jobs overseas and leaving rust-belt towns in ruin. Trump, unlike globalist progressive politicians, prioritized American manufacturing. His tariffs and protectionist policies aimed to reinvigorate industries crippled by NAFTA and China’s exploitation of free trade loopholes. In his current administration he’s already focused on rebuilding the shipbuilding, lumber, mining, and steel industries.

Under Trump’s leadership, the working class saw wage growth, reduced illegal competition, and an economic policy focused on their prosperity, not Wall Street’s. The modern Left, beholden to corporate donors, has abandoned the working class in favor of neoliberal globalism.

The Reality of Illegal Immigration

Despite the media’s narrative, uncontrolled illegal immigration harms the working class the most. It creates downward wage pressure, burdens public services, and allows corporations to exploit cheap labor at the expense of American workers.

Trump fought for border security not out of xenophobia, but to protect jobs and wages for American citizens, particularly in minority communities. The Democratic Party, once the champion of labor, now serves the interests of globalists by promoting policies that flood the market with low-wage labor. Ungar-Sargon explained this brilliantly in a subsequent clip, noting the shift in GDP from the 70’s to today which was caused by free trade and illegal immigration.

People like Joe Rogan, Russell Brand, Jordan Petersen, Tulsi Gabbard, RFK, Brett Weinstein, Alan Dershowitz, and the list goes on and on. These were all democrat voters with progressive views. They now align with the MAGA movement because of the things in the article.

Trump and Maga have provided a party that is surprisingly moderate with some progressive ideas while preaching fiscal conservatism. Joe Rogan still has social conservative ideas while supporting the maga movement.

I totally agree on the anti-war and illegal immigration settlement.

Furthermore, neutering the judicial branch, undoing open world market capitalism, and the potential power to functionally overturn constitutional amendments look to be very fruitful for future leftist Presidents and is laying the groundwork to a more powerful federal government more overseas countries with a democratic socialist lean.

Precisely 0 countries have eliminated things like pensions, socialized medicine and free college. Making those things easier to get done point to a country that’s more progressive long term.

How the phuck do people find this shit?

I'm so glad my algorithm only sends me pics of hot women and cool cars. It's one of the ways I know I'm better than most people.
Despite the origin of this, or any article, need to “look under the hood” for the details…several valid points were made in this article.

Now…back to the “Boobs” thread to “look under the hood”. 😜

LMFAO. Where do I start?

Trump is the "Anti-War President" but has threatened to invade Canada and Greenland. He's threatened Iran and is literally bombed Yemen thus week.

Trump is "Socially Moderate" but he appointed extremist SCOTUS judges that killed Roe. He kicked trans soldiers out of the military. He's signed executive orders that have rolled back discrimination protections.

Trump is "The Champion of American Workers" but he hates unions, and said striking employees should be fired. Reduced OSHA inspectors, and weakened penalties on companies who violate those laws. His Secretary of Labor is a former Union-Busting lawyer.

Didn't the Ukraine war and Israel war start under a democrat? Hardly the party of anti war that the democrats used to stand for

You assume that trans is a real thing that deserves special discrimination protection. Most logical people think discrimination protections should be reserved for immutable characteristics, not something like trans that is subjective and can change minute to minute and day to day. The trans in the military is a whole other story, trans is a mental health issue, and it should be treated as such. There are other mental health disorders that preclude people from serving in the military.

Trump has received a good amount of support from unions. But he is pro labor. He opposes the open immigration that drives wages down. He is working to decrease taxes for the working class.

What is funny about that? rfk and tulsi were both democrats. They obviously were not far left, but they were democrats who voted for democrats. Are you really denying basic facts?

I don't think you understand what a leftist is. Misunderstanding things and claiming falsehoods doesn't make them true.

Someone use to be a democrat, so now I'm going to consider them a leftist. It's a moronic premise.

I don't remember Rogan being anything but maga.
Gabberd left the Democratic party years ago because she couldn't win as a Democrat.
Dershowitz has been a Faux News attorney since the 90s and served on team trump during one of his impeachments.
Rogan smokes a lot of weed though so he's a progressive man.

I don't think you understand what a leftist is. Misunderstanding things and claiming falsehoods doesn't make them true.
Tulsi supported government Healthcare, all of the people i mentioned support government handouts and tend to lean left on the social issues.

My intention was to point out that these people were former democrats who lean fairly far left on some social issues. You can get all bent out of shape about whether I used the word correctly, or whether these people fit into that category. it doesn't matter.

You choose not to see the point, and that is on you.

Isn't Bernie sanders a leftist?

Tulsi and rogan both supported him.

I had no idea you guys were so sensitive about your labels. lol. apparently I hit a nerve

Bernie is a self proclaimed democratic socialist.
So you are saying I am right without saying those words. By definition that makes him a leftist. You idiot. Tulsi and rogan both backed Bernie during his presidential run. One can only assume that if you support a candidate, your political beliefs align. Thus making both of them leftists.

"The term “leftist” (ˈlɛftɪst, ˈleftɪst, leftist) is used to describe a political ideology that’s considered to be on the left side of a political spectrum. It can also refer to people who hold left-wing ideologies.
Leftists are often associated with socialism, communism, democratic socialism, social democracy, and neo-Marxism."https://thewordcounter.com/leftist-meaning/

Funny that I triggered you into name calling.

Settle down.

In your simple world, if you think someone is a leftist simply because they supported someone at one point in time. So be it. Your opinion means nothing. It's just very telling and explains a lot.

In your world, donald trump himself is a leftist because he supported both Hillary and Bill Clinton in their runs for for federal office (U.S. Senator and President).

Yet, no one else in the world would consider trump a leftist.

But you do you.

Bernie supports reforming the capitalist system, not a revolution. By any academic definition, he is not a leftist.

I feel bad for you two because I can see that you really believe you are right and you think you are smarter than everyone else. You don't know what you are talking about. I provided a link that supports my side. Every definition I can find on google supports what I am saying but you think you are smarter than the entire internet. But facts don't matter to you because you respond based on propaganda and on emotion rather than facts and logic.
