Why the disparity between the coaches and AP Polls?

I generally take the coaches poll more serious than the AP pencil pusher polls but seems that the last 2/3 weeks have been quite different... I do have a question for anyone who wants to chime in how much does either poll matter and does one outweigh the other? I see all these different indexes and matrixes lol but anyone honestly know and how one may impact more than the other?

The coaches tend to vote more within their conferences because frankly they just don't get the chance to see a lot of games/teams outside of their conferences. I heard this in a story with interviews of coaches asking about their votes in general. So that tends to lend more balance between power 5 conferences even though it muddies the water when you have a conference like the B1G this year that is a lot better than som of the other conferences who have as many or more rated teams.

I'm more surprised when they are the same, which they usually are. It's almost like they read one poll and then vote in the other.

WHY exactly would you do that? Everyone has known for years that the coaches don't actually do the voting in basketball or football. How could they actually watch other teams, in other leagues and get anything but snap shots and highlights while they're coaching their own teams through a tough conference schedule? They couldn't possibly have time to be informed on other teams other then what they might see on SportCenter etc... We know they pass these duties on to some GA or someone in the SID's office like they could give a shit how they're voting. The coaches poll has been a total joke for years and should be totally eliminated from any serious consideration anyway.

Neither poll has any impact on anything regarding the ncaa tournament. They’re pretty useless.

I check NET and KenPom. I’m not sure what others check.

They’re for TV hype. Nothing more.

The polls are fun and it's cool seeing us at #5 and it would be even cooler to see us at #1 again sometime, but I'm more concerned about NCAA Tournament seeding, getting a good draw, and most importantly, the team staying hot and making a deep tournament run.

Whether we are #5, #8 or whatever the exact number is, is just window dressing.
