He still could reference him though...If Joe goes Pro then sadly Stephan Bardo will no longer be able to say "Muscatine".

Let me be perfectly clear, I want Joe Wieskamp to return to Iowa for his Senior year. In fact, I will go so far as to say I think it would be to his benefit to return. But if he is determined to give the NBA a shot, why not let Coach McCaffery know now so it would clarify for the coaching staff and possible recruits exactly who will be on the team? The draft is on July 29th, but I think players can declare now with no repercussions if they change their minds. And if he has made the decision to return to Iowa, why not announce that and put the fans' minds at ease? Not trying to rush Joe, but if his mind is made up...
I think i get what you’re saying...since Garza will be gone he will get all the attention and it will be hard to get open looks...Makes sense, but not sure that’s how it would play out. The offense next year should have A LOT more penetrate and kick with some guards that can actually beat their man. Id say having jbo as a pg was almost as big a detriment to joe, as garza was a help. It would be diff if the best player from this yrs team was a guard and was leaving, so the other teams are now throwing their best defenders at him...he was already getting the other teams best perimeter defenders, and did just fine. Not to mention there’s an extra 15-20 shots/gm up for grabs. I see no reason joe couldn’t avg around 20/gm if he comes backIf he comes back and he’ll be marginally less effective.
Great young man. Great Hawkeye. His peak was this past season though.
Only to non-wrestling fans.
That's fair, even when not winning natty they are competitive and wrestling fans are pretty intense. Wrestling was one of my earliest sports and I enjoy watching the hawks and catch most of the action but it is secondary to basketball and to be honest if the program sucked I wouldn't watch much at all. That's not what you said. You said it would be boring to get upset if you didn't win a national title every year.
Except with Iowa wrestling, we expect to win the title every year.....and it's not boring at all..............unless you're not a fan of wrestling.
In which case............

That's very true although It would help tremendously if Iowa bball only had 77 other programs to compete with instead of 349 and they were one of a few programs who had a chance each yr because of what someone built decades ago (no gable, no brands). I'm proud of Iowa wrestling but it's lame to rub their success in other programs' faces when you consider how different team wrestling tournaments are and what march madness is in 5 on 5 basketball. That's why no team dominates men's bball. Go Hawks. You want to beat them, get better. Oh wait, Iowa already did that for 2 years running and another on the way. Go Hawks!
I agree, he's been getting the best perimeter defenders for over a year now, it's not like the post players guarding Garza are going to now slip out and guard Joe. If he came back, and without Garza filling up the lane, a lineup of Keegan, Pat, Joe, CJ, and Joe T all moving around would open up many of those driving lanes for Joe.I think i get what you’re saying...since Garza will be gone he will get all the attention and it will be hard to get open looks...Makes sense, but not sure that’s how it would play out. Why would he be smothered? The correlation to Joe being smothered because Luka leaves, really makes no sense. He should go for the NBA now if he wants a long shot chance.
Next year he’ll be smothered & have worse stats imo. Garza made his stats look way better than the player he is imo.
Smothered how? Teams already put their best perimeter defenders or play tight defense on him, and it’s not like he’s going to start getting double teamed every time he touches the ball. Joe is going to have a great opportunity to stop worrying so much about his efficiency and start forcing shots a little bit, and I think we’d see some games where he absolutely goes off. Not to mention that, in lineups with more athleticism than we had last year, Joe could also benefit from quite a few more open looks both in transition and spotting upHe should go for the NBA now if he wants a long shot chance.

Why? Did you peak at age 21?If he comes back (and I think he will), he’ll be marginally less effective.

I peaked at 17 but my opinion has nothing to do with his age (derp) and everything to do with the personnel on the floor with him. Why? Did you peak at age 21?
You don’t think the personnel next year will be better suited, and the offense focused more around Joe’s game? I just don’t see the correlation between Garza being on the floor and creating opportunities for joe. Or I should say, watching games this year I never thought, man garza is really freeing up joe...I peaked at 17 but my opinion has nothing to do with his age (derp) and everything to do with the personnel on the floor with him.

Wow I could not disagree with you more. Garza was not a good passer out of the post. And the majority of joe’s points definitely did not come from kick out passes. Can i ask, who was kicking the ball out to him for open shots?Ok.
I don’t agree because the majority of JW’s points came from kick out passes. Less attention to college POY big means fewer open kick outs.
He’s an elite shooter but not a player that can create his own shot.
You are 100% correct. The biggest flaw in Garza's game is that he is not a very good passer. I am sure the NBA scouts would say he is deficient in that area. And the notion that JW is just a spot up shooter is uneducated at best. He can certainly move well enough and is more than capable of creating his own shot. In my less than professional opinion, JW needs to get stronger, improve at finishing at the rim, and his passing. And for those of you who don't think he is "athletic" enough to play in the NBA, you are just color blind. Pun intended.Wow I could not disagree with you more. In the NBA his game will primarily be spot up shooting, that is if he’s drafted/makes a team. In college he is much more than that. I get the notion that he has shown what he needs to in college, that being, a very good shooter. By him coming back and getting better at penetrating and finishing, yea that’s great for Iowa but I don’t think it really helps his NBA stock that much. But what raptor was saying about not creating his own shot and his production dropping off without Garza is asinine! You are 100% correct. I mean, garza avg 1.7 a/gm, bohannon hardly every saw the paint to be able to kick it out, connor never saw the paint, keegan did but wasn’t a very good passer, cj while a decent penetrator isn’t known for his passing. So who exactly were these kick out passes for open shots coming from?! 🤷♂️This. Raptor had some pretty bad basketball takes.
Some random clip from a random week I found in 30 seconds.Wow I could not disagree with you more. Garza was not a good passer out of the post. And the majority of joe’s points definitely did not come from kick out passes. Can i ask, who was kicking the ball out to him for open shots?
