Why Was Iowa/Oregon At 11am?

I know it’s old news, but the more I think about this it upsets me. Iowa should have played an evening game. Now that I see Oregon/USC at night again, it tells me Iowa got the short end of the stock all the way around on scheduling.
Yes they did. We came out fine in the first half. Tired legs in the second half against a fresh team.

What happened.to those alternate teams? I guess that was lip service.

Had Oregon played a first round game, it might have been different. But the start time is not to blame.
They knew exactly how to beat IOWA, drive to the basket and expose our defense and lack of quickness on D.

For there to be an alternate team to get in, a team had to drop out of the tournament by 5 p.m. Eastern on the Tuesday before the tournament started. VCU didn't drop out until the Saturday after that.

I don’t look at it as an excuse. I think it is fair to question why the NCAA did things the way they did.

  1. Oregon, a major conference regular season champion, was a 7 seed. I’d love to know the last time that happened.
  2. Oregon‘s first round opponent cancelled thanks to COVID. The NCAA claimed they had alternative teams set up to fill in. This was the only cancellation in the tourney so far and was a 10 seed that cancelled. It makes sense to replace a 10 seed with an alternate. But they didn’t and gave Oregon a bye. Why?
  3. Iowa played a late game on Saturday. Then had to turn around and play the earliest round 2 game about 38 hours later, once again against a team that didn’t have to play the first game. Why?
Iowa, with the injuries they had wasn’t making the Final Four. But if the NCAA had fixed any one of the items above they would have had a fighting chance at making the second weekend. Hell, imagine if we’d gotten the bracket that Houston got. Knowing what we know now, Iowa probably should have been a 3 or 4 seed. We don’t know what Oregon should have been seeded yet because it is Sunday on the 2nd weekend of the tournament and they’ve played only one game so far.

Again, by the time VCU dropped out, the deadline had already passed for an alternate team to be selected. If VCU had dropped out prior to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, an alternate would've been selected. VCU didn't drop out until March 20, 4 days after the deadline.

Trolling again.......go away!! You just want to dig up this crap and pretend you are a fan.

No clue what you’re talking about. It’s a fair question when the game times were set up as late games then all of a sudden this one time it was the early game.

Considering the people that would change that rule are the ones that made the rule that is an odd thing to point to as an excuse. There was zero excuse at all for an alternative team not to play in the first round.

Once against who set those rules? It wasn't an act of congress or God. It was just the ncaa. No way Oregon should have had a bye and played us two days later rested.

It is a bullshit excuse and it should never have happened.

Yes especially if oregon had also had to play 2 days earlier.
Not just that, but as soon as they knew the game was being cancelled the Oregon staff started working on the game plan for Iowa. When you win a game in the tourney you have to deal with everything at the arena including post-game meeting, interviews, showers, etc., come down off of the physical and mental high from playing the game, get some sleep, and then start working on the next game.

Oregon got to skip all of that and get right to working on the next game many hours before the Iowa GCU game even tipped off. That is a big advantage. And when Iowa was already behind the 8 ball in general health and the obvious lack of athleticism, that advantage really showed up.

March 14th to March 22nd, iowa played 2 games.
You really think another 4 hours of rest would have an impact on the outcome of the Oregon game?
Iowa didn't lose the game because they were tired.
Agree, plus it was at 9AM Oregon time, if anything that would have been to our advantage.

How long had Oregon been in Indianapolis prior to Monday’s game vs Iowa? I’d have to guess at least six days, if not a full week. I doubt the 9am PST would have any effect on any of the West coast teams by then.

Yeah, I get it, but that was the first time they would have a game at 9AM their time all year. You'd think it would throw them off a little, but it clearly didn't.

When you give up layups/dunks and wide open 3 point looks it does not matter when you play. Take a charge, or challenge at the rim and if it results in a hard body foul while making a play on the ball so be it. Fran teams are soft.
