Pardon the Interruption just ripped the snot out of Iowa BB coach Fran McC for not shaking hands after the win over ND. Wilbon called him a bully among other things and brought up past incidents. Almost a full 60 seconds of negative comments.

Tony Kornheiser (sp?) called McCaffery "the Bo Pelini of college basketball".
These guys must have some history with Fran because both were way over the top in their criticism.

Not sure I care about people who can sit through that crud and listen. But, keep advertising us guys!

Am I the only one who thinks that the word "bully" has been misused so badly that it doesn't carry a clear meaning any more? Bully now means nothing more than someone I dislike or disagree with.

Whether you agree with what Coach McCaffery did, it is not bullying. No verbal or physical confrontation occurred. No threats, no intimidation, no show of force.

LOL! I love it. Wilbon should be wearing a dress on that show and then cry to Oprah tomorrow. "Oh, Oprah, it was so horrible. A man--yes, a real man, not like me or Tony--hurt my feelings by not shaking another man's hand. What? What does that have to do with me? Why are you being mean to me, Oprah? Why?!" Pussy.

I didn't realize walking away from a conflict was a form of bullying. Interesting.

This must be a slow news day. What a ridiculous thing to get your panties in a twist about.

They have a staff to prepare their outrage each day. I got rid of all the ESPN channels last year. Haven't missed a thing. There are other ways to watch games.

Anyone that will defend that Cheating POS Roy Williams/UNC in one breath and vilify Fran with the next, isn't worth the oxygen it takes to keep them alive.
I watch games and an occasional 30 for 30 possibly, but I don't watch a single talking heads show on ESPN, and haven't for years nor will I in the future.

I'd love to ask Wilbon and Kornheiser (Washington Post and New York Times - wonder if he's a Bleeding Heart D'Bag) how much of the game they actually watched before they ran their pie holes on their "platform". I already know the answer, but I'd love to see these pricks answer it with a camera in their face.

Tony Kornhiser got kicked off the ESPN for making fun of Hannah Storm's figure calling her a sausage, a very attractive women. He should look at his partner Michael Wilbon a rather repulsive looking man who does not have a good word to say about anybody. His remarks about Adam Woodbury showed a lack of intelligence, as watching the video showed it was accidental.

While I disagree with what Fran did, bullying is not appropriate to describe it. Another example of misapplying a term because it has a dog whistle like effect for some people.

OMG Fran wasn't Iowa nice? Only Blue Blood coaches are revered even though they are asses. Fran needs to learn his place.

Yep, just like racist, sexist, homophobic ect. They're making people numb to the actual meaning of the word by applying to everyone they disagree with.

The problem is the national media won't look at the events that led to what FM did. They don't care, just instant reaction with no analysis, but thats what sells.

Used to kind of like those guys but lost a lot of respect after Wilbon's former rant (involving the eye poking) about Fran being a Bully and Kornhiser not even being able to correctly pronounce KF's name when discussing his new deal after last season. Glad I missed this rant. Wilbon has a real nut for Fran and I doubt he has even met the man. Both the ESPN and the FOX talking head shows are pretty much swill.

Michael Wilbon has a job at ESPN due to the quota
system. He has no personality at all, and no logic
in his tirades. He should be thankful he gets a
paycheck for knowing nothing and doing nothing of
value.

Oh come on Lute. Don't go there. Wilbon has misguided opinions and an unhealthy dislike of Fran and Iowa (because of the pain they have inflicted on Northwestern over the years) but he is a not a token. Dude graduated from Northwestern and wrote (maybe still does) for the Washington Post. He is good at what he does (he has your attention, which is what he is paid to do).

Yep. If everyone is a racist/bully/sexist then nobody is a racist/sexist/bully. It's to the point where these labels are applied too often and when there are actual instances of unacceptable behavior no one bats an eye.

Back to Fran. Not much going on so outrage is magnified. I didn't think it was a good move. The majority of the team was ready to shake hands.
Oh well that dips--- from duke tripped another guy so this story will be put to bed.

Not much going on so outrage is magnified.

I thought that, too. Wilson was probably secretly thrilled to have something else to gripe about besides Duke. The only thing I can think to explain why people watch him is that, every once in a while, they think, "You know, my wife hasn't nagged me about anything for a few weeks. Wonder what Wilbon is bitching about.": ---- "Oh, how can you watch that game? The one man didn't even shake the other man's hand! Ugh, I have a headache. I'll be upstairs watching Oprah reruns from the '80s if you want to cuddle later."

I enjoy watching PTI. I find them both pretty entertaining, and they often can make some pretty good points. But make no mistake, it's a show that depends on the hyperbole and overreaction. If you know that, it tends to make the rough stuff go down a little easier.

As mentioned, Wilbon (and many NW alums in the media from that era) has always had it in for Iowa after Iowa clobbered them so many times in the 80's in both football and basketball.

The thing we Iowa fans have to realize that as far as the B10 is concerned, there are a few of the "original 10" schools in the conference that find it utterly inconceivable that Iowa is better than then in anything. Their members of the media perpetuate this.

Minnesota and Northwestern seem to be the biggest examples of this. Sid Hartman's rants about Iowa have been well documented. Greenberg and Wilbon are guilty too, though Greenie seems to keep a lid on it for the most part better than Williebuns.

So, yeah, Wilbon's going to go over the top on anything Iowa. Certainly not objective obviously, but predictable.

Funny how Wilbon calls Fran a punk and bully but during the Woodbury issue he said the next team that plays Iowa should have their biggest guy take a shot at Woody to prove point and put him in the place. Interesting that sounds like something a bully would do. PTI anymore is just a step below the likes of Stephan A Smith and Bayless. Most guys like Bilas, Fran Fraschilla even Vitale who actually know and call lot of college bball for ESPN are fans and complimentary of Fran as a coach and for the endless amount of time he does for cancer research.

if there is a lesson here it is this: STOP watching the garbage they spew out at ESECPN! Like another poster said I avoid them unless its absolutely necessary

Wilbon is nothing more than a clown who has no idea what he is even talking about 100% of the time. Never seen somebody so stupid try to tell others how things should be

AT the time your comments are exactly what I said in an email to ESPN. I have boycotted all ESPN programming other than live sporting events.

You guys know Wilbon is good friends with Kenny Arnold?

San Diego, Calif.: Hey Wilbon, just sent an earlier question about 'Zona and Gil Arenas, but on a serious note, I didn't realize that Kenny Arnold, a member of Lute Olson's Final Four squad in Iowa is one of your best friends. I love Zona, went there, and always knew that Lute was the man, but when I recently read a story that Lute flew Kenny out to Tucson to help him with his cancer, as well as another member of the team to help, and he payed for all of it really reminded me how great this man is, and what's good about college basketball. Is this the greatest time of the year or what?

Michael Wilbon: I'm going to see Kenny this weekend in Chicago. We grew up together on the South Side. Played on the same Little League team, played basketball together most days until he just got too damn good. We did everything together...my brother Don, Ken, several other guys...He got the nickname "Frog" from leaping a six-foot brick fence in my backyard to get away from my German Shepherd who was trying to take a chunk out of Kenny...We were 12. We still call him "Frog" and are very worried about his health and well-being ... We're planning a little hang out time on the south side between games this weekend if at all possible. I'm glad a few people out there remember him as a starter on Iowa's championship-game team that lost to Louisville in 1980. To have one of your best childhood friends reach the Final Four and start...it was a real high.

PTI is over reaction for ratings simple as that. Iowa is big enough for people to care about. But not big enough for something like this to be swept under the rug by the shock jocks.

Count me as one who enjoys, but doesn't always agree, with their banter.

When it comes to ripping on someone, they're like piranha. It's what the network loves.

I do like to watch when they're forced to be journalistic, though. I like when they have to break out of their shock jock roles and actually go off script.

What they said about Woody and Fran is all echo chamber bullcrap and an easy target, which Fran has a tendency to bring on himself.

I love him, though. Flaws and all.
