Heard from a PSU fan that if he were our 184 pounder next year, we are in trouble. Think we got ourselves a good one here. Has battled his heart out against a heavily favored Cutch and lost on riding time....Coaches fault once again.
But yet the same PSU fans claim McCutcheon is a lock for AA at 184 this year. Both undersized 197's, looked pretty equal to me.
Wilcke will surprise people next year at 184. Or surprise those who haven't been following his progression.
I've seen numerous posts stating that if McCutcheon WAS at 184, that he would be an AA lock. But theres a guy named Bo Nickal keeping him up at 197. I've also seen people suggest he's a lock for 197 AA. But theres many PSU fans who disagree with the latter notion.Uh no we don't.

This is D1 wrestling, it's not easy to bump up a weight and compete at the highest level. McCutcheon has solid wins thus far at 197, and has wrestled top ranked guys close. He's earned his ranking, but I expect he will fall somewhere in the R16 or sooner at NCAAs, and I expect about the same from Wilcke. 197 is an unbelievably weak weight class though, so who knows what will happen in March. He's regressed as a wrestler regardless of weight. One of the few with this staff. And he can't do anything with his height at 97. He certainly doesn't look like a #10.

I think its a horse a piece for PSU 197. McCutcheon out there a bit undersized but a crafty veteran, or the talented young buck who may be a more natural 197, but has had 2 shoulder surgeries and missed last season and the majority of this one. If they put Cassar out, I would be very worried about shoulder reinjury with him as a PSU fan.casser might beat him out for the spot

I guess I pay more attention to your board than you do. If I feel like making the effort I'll do your research for you.I haven't seen them, please show us these numerous posts. Most know 84 is a much more stacked weight this year. Cutch has had two shots at placing at NCAAs and hasn't got it done yet. Has been ok at 97 so far. Got decked at Nebraska a couple weeks ago and that took something out of him. Beat an unranked true frosh from Rutgers last week by one point. Guess that kid will be a stud next year also.
I'm not going to bother digging up posts because I don't care enough, but I do generally agree with Lax's post. Most PSU fans thought he was an AA at 184, and most were penciling him as an AA at 197 until recently. Quite a few people wanted Nickal to go 174 to make sure Cutch could get into the lineup at 184, because that would "be best for the team".I haven't seen them, please show us these numerous posts. Wilcke may or may not be a good 184, who knows. I'm not convinced one way or the other. I don't think I'm exaggerating at all. There were certainly people that have never believed in Cutch, but they were in the minority. I guess we could go back and take a tally, but like I said, I don't really have the interest. It's really just a matter of semantics at this point. He could still AA at 197, and prove his believers rightYou are exaggerating with, "most PSU fans", and "Quite a few people". There were a very few who were in the minority. Every board including this one has those who have unrealistic expectations.
So because Wilcke lost a close one to Cutch and some exuberant PSU fans think Cutch is great, Wilcke is now going to be a solid 84 next year? Maybe he will but tonights match is hardly a great indicator of that.

I think he is a mixed bag right now. He has made strides since last year, and is a good athlete. On the other hand, he has absolutely no top game, and doesn't chain wrestle. He needs much much better setups, and that's something some guys develop and some don't.Here is why I think Cash can do well at 184...he wrestles tough against bigger guys. Tough to shoot on them and finish underneath...I believe he'll be able to use his athletiscm at 184 better. Plus, he is young and will have a full season underneath him with Warner coming in as a workout partner. I think Cash will improve immensely in the off season...just saying, not bad for a #86 guy

He has a lot of holes to shore up for sure. His activity level being the biggest one. Same issue at 184 last year. I think he has the athletic ability for sure but needs to unleash.I think he is a mixed bag right now. He has made strides since last year, and is a good athlete. He wrestles most of the match like he's afraid to make a mistake. PSU's young guns (Nickal & Nolf) take chances and sometimes they get taken down, but the more chances you take the more times you score. I would rather see our guys make an offensive effort keep it close and still lose.He has a lot of holes to shore up for sure. His activity level being the biggest one. Same issue at 184 last year. I haven't really been a fan of Wilcke and I've been harder on him than most on here. But after rewatching his match right now I realized he's a lot like Dziewa, he can hit that duck on basically anyone he wants to. He just needs to do it. I'd much rather he lose because he's taking shots and the people are just bigger and counter him. But he's been losing and not taking shots. He's more than capable of winning a couple matches at NCAA but it's all above the shoulders.
