As I understand it Dubuque St is a cluster by Mayflower and the Park Road bridge will be reconstructed so the only clean way to get there is via lower Riverside Drive so getting in and out will be hell I would imagine. Are more people going to be in the far out commuter lots? Whats the story?

Currently, you can get through to the Hancher lots, but I would come early. Traffic on Dubuque Street will be awful on gameday Saturdays.

As far as I know, the new bridge will be completed before the old one is demolished.

Too bad they didn't have a three month stretch while school was out of session to finish the work in front of Mayflower. It always seems like they are working so hard when I crawl past at 2 mph.

For the next 2 or 3 years, going to Hancher will be a nightmare. Dubuque St. is and will remain virtually unusable. Park Rd. is accessible via Rocky Shore Dr. from Coralville, but it's only two lane. Same with Riverside Dr.
Football games will be even worse.
A related problem means First Ave. in Coralville is continuously clogged with drivers using that as an alternate.

From what I can tell, construction began just weeks after the spring semester ended. For a multiyear project like this one there's no way to avoid conflicts with commutes or with individual high traffic days like football Saturdays.

Yes this project is a major inconvenience. But ideally when complete you'll have a new Dubuque St and Park Road bridge that are above the floodplain. For the next century plus there should be limited flooding events, closures, and costly damages.

In no way do I have a complaint that they are doing the project. There is no doubt its needed. I am just trying to figure out how to cope with it for the next couple of years. I have been parking at Hancher or Upper City Park off and on for several years nows. Its not really a bad walk and you can use the buses.
