This is a first hand account of abuse by a Southern Baptist, but if you bother to read along it’s evident that there was a culture that sought to cover up abuse. She has some interesting thoughts on the language used to describe the abuse.

I've been thinking about this, and reading a little more about it. Is it less icky to some because the Catholic priest scandal included a lot of same sex abuse, and the SBC has a culture of older men being recognized as having dominion over women?

No for the simple fact the SBC structure and Roman-Catholic structure are totally different. A church can affiliate with the SBC but there is no formal leadership structure and thus, nothing to report up.

Think of a Southern Baptist Congregation as a franchise
in a certain city. It has the Southern Baptist name but
it operates independently of any church hierarchy on a
national level.
