I haven't heard anything official yet (I sometimes live under a rock). Just figured there would have been some type of announcement or acknowledgement by now that he's officially done at Iowa.

Won't lie, I've entertained those thoughts myself. Maybe Joe is struggling with this decision. Won't get my hopes up, but stranger things have happened.

He's coming back, going to be the focal point of the offense. Probably average 20 pts/game and get drafted next year.

Joe would be 23 when the 2022-2023 NBA season tips off.

Of the 90+ rookies to play in the NBA this season only something like 27 were 23 or older, and the majority of them came from other leagues, not straight from college.

Understand. Curious what your opinion is on why he has yet to say anything officially?

He has until July 7th to make a final decision so there is no real reason to rush it and make one before then. He is still working out for teams and also trying to gather info on other avenues...2-way deals, etc...that have been successful for so many. I think he also has to decide if the Iowa team next season is a group he wants to play with.

Beyond reason I am holding on to hope. But I am fully aware that chances are slim and none and, well, you know the rest.

the NBA draft combine is being held I
June 21-27th. He will know shortly thereafter whether he will get drafted or not.
July 7th is the magic date. However, based upon reports of his camp performance,we should know where it's trending before then

The average age of an NBA player is 27 years old. And they can expect to play a little over 4 years.

That fits the bill

The latest ESPN "best available" has Luka at 55 (6th at his position) and Joe W at 80 (14th at SF). If my math is correct, that puts Joe 20 spots outside the two draft rounds.

On another site (NBA Draft Room) he didn't make the top 17 at SF or the Top 28 at SG (in case they thought he was a SG). They had Luka going 59th (8th at his position)

I think it's fairly clear the Joe isn't going to be drafted. Even Luka is on the bubble.

Of course, that doesn't mean he'll come back.

For many NBA players where raw athleticism is a key component, I would agree that every year that goes by makes them a little less valuable. However, Weezy does not seem to be one of those guys. I believe he will be more of a 3 point specialist (more like Kyle Korver, as an example), and if he can maintain a high shooting percentage, the athleticism "falloff" will be a minor issue.

This pretty much echoes my thoughts. If Joe were likely to be drafted, I'm guessing there would have been some official statement by him by now thanking Fran, his teammates, Hawkeye nation, etc. etc. That doesn't mean he's not ready to move on, it probably just means his NBA prospects are pretty bleak at this point. I guess he'll have to figure out if he wants to play another season at Iowa or go the Euro or developmental league route. Not really an easy choice.

If Joe were a little quicker and a little better at creating his own shot off the dribble, he probably wouldn't be in limbo as far as the NBA is concerned.

Why would he leave? He’s not going in the first 2 rounds. He would be the focal point of the offense next year. He will be buried in the D league for a couple years.

I think Joe could be a second round draft pick, but if he isn’t, it could end up being better for him. From a financial perspective of course it’s better to have a basically guaranteed contract, but so few players drafted late end up making it that it could be just as good to go undrafted and find a team that is in need of what he can provide

Just my opinion, but that’s what ended up happening with Uthoff bouncing around a little bit before getting his shot with the Mavs

So you're saying there's a chance.

Either way, I am sure the University will issue a glowing announcement. Joe was a great Hawkeye who is simply struggling with the decision of his lifetime. Maybe he will attend the combine and just kill it and generate a lot of interest. Or just the opposite and then have to decide whether he wants to return to IC or go overseas for a job. Either way, I would bet most Iowa fans support his decision and are pulling for him.

Espn just had its latest mock draft yesterday. Insider pay article so didn’t link. Luka was 54 to OKC. Joe didn’t make it on there.

I’m not sure there would be a formal announcement he’s staying anymore then one for Murry staying: if he were to decide he’s staying I would expect him to say so on social media. He’s fielding offers/weighing his options and should he decide they are not attractive enough we’ll know when he’s ready to tell us. I suspect there hasn’t been any I’ve got to take this situation that has presented itself and he’s waiting for more information. I’ll bet Fran knows which direction he’s leaning. Even if he’s gone Fran may think his existing roster is a better bet than going all in on a portal prospect, missing, and having transfer issues.

I don't know Weesy at all, but it sounds like he won't be drafted, and his best chance to make money would probably be overseas, at least next year. He could bounce around like Uthoff for a few years, and maybe work his way on to a team, but that is very uncertain. Everyone would like to make big money, but I think people have said his family doesn't need money. So, the decision seems to be between hoping to be in the right place at the right time and playing his way on to a roster, or coming back to Iowa and likely cementing a legacy as a great Hawk. I think he would have a really good shot at being first-team all B1G. He would be a year older, but probably no worse off wrt being in the NBA draft. Tough decision for him. I'm selfish, so I want Weesy back for his Sr year.

If he chooses to come back, it could be an good endorsement for those players that people are unsure about. He's practiced against this team for a while now, he knows these players. If he stands to be the focal point on a team he feels he can compete well with, it would be a lot easier decision. Working on the area's he receives feedback on, may be easier with folks he is used to working with, with a routine he is used to.

Nobody is talking about another possibility, Joe entering the portal. That is also a viable option for him.

Is there rumors of him doing that suterman if he does he better enter soon otherwise teams will be full of scholarships

If you are Joe W you have to ask yourself does another year at Iowa raise my draft stock? The answer is probably not. So, if the extra year is not going to be a help, what is the next best option? With a brand new wife do I want to head overseas? Maybe, maybe not. Seems like Joe doesn't have an obvious good choice here. If I'm Joe I think I would return for my last year and just relax and have fun with it.
