Lot's of talk Wille's latest social media rant may be his final as a Flo employee. Thoughts?

I think he's unprofessional and immature. Flo is losing out on revenue due to this guys foolish behavior.
That may be true, but he is widely accepted as a very knowledgeable and well-connected individual. For every bad thing he says about the Hawks or anyone else, he has 5 insights about high school prospects and recruiting. While this may be the last straw for Willie, I'm sure Flo realizes that he brings/brought a lot to the table.

Agree and no way he gets fired, unfortunately.

Is there really talk about him being fired by anyone other than this board? I am sure the people leading Flo hired him for a reason. We may not like what he says. He may be a name dropping egomaniac. He may have way too high an opinion of his wrestling knowledge. He may come off as a complete tool that thinks he is more important than he is because he is in a position at a company that gives him access to a bunch of talented high school kids he so desperately wants to be affiliated with. But Martin knew exactly what he was getting when he hired him. He is polarizing, which in the position he is holding at Flo is much better than being milquetoast.

I find him annoying but oddly entertaining.

One I don't think Willie is anywhere close to being let go BUT I do believe CP would take that role and run with it. CP seems like he's not an Iowa fan either (which isn't needed AT ALL for that role) but he's very professional and an awesome addition to Flo. Here's to CP's future promotion

CP would have enough sense not to alienate the sport's largest fanbase.

Willie's comments about Iowa remind me of when the Marlins were trying to brand themselves as Latin America's team and then Ozzie Guillen made those comments about admiring Castro. Why bite the hand that feeds you?

He has that credibility and access due to his association with flo. Plug anyone else in that role and give them that level of access and you will get similar, if not superior, insight.

Way to show how out of touch you are. Willie was the National Wrestling Media journalist of the year prior to his employment with Flo. Let alone being a real journalist, he's not just a fan boy with a Twitter handle and claiming his end game is to grow the sport.

I think it would be hard to find someone who could replace him. Take any IA Wrestle Tweeter and your only getting a media outlet that is an extension of the Hawkeye Report message board. Yeah, Flo makes money but that's business. You're a fool to think IA Wrestle donated their time. They're in it to make money also. I'm guessing the feud has everything to do with Meija and some mutual bad blood on dominos falling to get wrestlers for each of their events.

Willie knows wrestling and his and CP's podcast is the best out there because they actually know what they're talking about. When you think about it most everyone's gripe is Willie is anti Hawkeye and we have a fan base that will suscribe so he's costing Flo money. Turns out that is what IA Wrestle is playing on. It's all about throwing together an article on a message board rumor, tweeting links, getting hits and collecting advertising money. But, I can't blame them for wanting paid. This is America and you're not able to do this in Iran.

In the heart of recruiting season and on the eve of the NCAA season, another stupid HR thread about Willie Saylor. Nice work, boys.

LOL. I do not know who you fine folks are but sounds as though you may be from the great state of PA. If so, take a walk around State College if you want to see "out of touch."

Nope, from Iowa. Isn't this thread proof that IA Wrestle is an extension of the Iowa program? Willie goes after them and our fan base is upset. I'm a realist and want realistic well written articles/conversations. I could care less to hear podcast relaying message board rumors as if it's factual information.

Just so everyone knows. We are in fact donating everything we made from the Night of Conflict, minus the costs of putting the event together. Rest assured no one's wallet from IA Wrestle benefitted from last week's event, and we spent the entire day Friday and Saturday at Carver (We also agreed to help run the Conflict at Carver). If that isn't volunteering I don't know what is. Also not looking for "thank you's", but if you are going to accuse us of last weekend being in it for the money, that's just flat out wrong.

We also had no bad blood when Mejia called to let me know he was going to WNO. I wished Justin good luck. The next time you see Justin or his dad ask them.

Waiting for a snarky response from Choco in 5....4......3.....2.....1 seconds

An extension of the Iowa program? Only exists for the purpose of Iowa recruiting? Unless it's being funded by U of I, that all seems like nonsense. The notion that it's somehow shocking that a website called "IAWrestle" might be biased towards Iowa is hilarious. Next you're going to tell me that Harry Caray pulled for the Cubs! I'm shocked! Shocked I say!

Assuming this thread is about that one tweet from Willie, I'd say the most surprising thing is that he'd go out of his way (again) to bash an Iowa-based web site which poses no threat to Flo. Seems unnecessary and unprofessional.

I think the argument would stem from this boards accusations that a media outlet (Flo) was steering recruits away from Iowa. Journalism is to be unbiased. If it's biased then it's not really journalism.

I've never even been to the Flo site and I only have a vague idea of who "Willie" is but this claim is not right. IAWrestle spends considerable time and resources on covering UNI and ISU.

Good point. Honestly, his picking a fight with IAWrestle is, if nothing else, weird.

IA wrestle covers everything with respect to wrestling in the state of Iowa.

It covers all Iowa HS wrestlers (no matter where they go to college). Has interviews with Iowa HS wrestlers (no matter where they go to college). Covers and interviews HS wrestlers that commit to colleges in Iowa (including Iowa, Iowa St. and UNI). Might be a little tilted towards the U of Iowa (because that is the dominant program in Iowa, duh??). To delve into kids' desire to commit to Iowa, Iowa St, or UNI is their job.

To state that their purpose is to recruit HS kids to the University of Iowa is just kind of stupid.

Flo covers wrestling at a national level, so to show favoritism towards any school or try to sway HS kids away from wrestling at any college (uh hem Willie - U of Iowa) is just wrong, unprofessional, and unethical.

I like what FLO does for wrestling, but Flo is wrong here - Willie is a tool.

I can't believe I'm responding to this crap. People, he was taking a jab at the interview with Alex Thompsen. The interviewer said something along the lines of "hey how about coming to Iowa." People are always saying that Willlie tries to get kids to go to Penn State and other PA schools all the time. It's his way of calling IA Wrestle out for doing the same thing he gets accused of doing all the time. The question by the interviewer should have been worded differently along the lines of "is Iowa a school you our considering." He is just trying to get under HR skin and call us hypocrites. Sadly I can see his point.

Also, IAWrestle's core college fan base is right here as far as message boards go. Of course they are going to interact with us more because it's dead over on state's board and I don't know if UNI has one. They are a regional group that has a market in the biggest fan base in the U.S.

Choco's "taco"'is bleeding...somebody give him a tampon...or even a pringle's can (seriously, wtf)

First, and I can't believe I'm responding to THIS crap, but that video didn't indicate that recruiting for Iowas was the sole purpose of IAWrestle. It DID indicate that IAWrestle is biased towards, well, Iowa Wrestling. It seems implausible that he, nor you, understand the difference in the audience and purpose of Flo vs. IAWrestle.

This would all make a lot more sense if someone posted a link to what was supposedly said.

Good point.

I think it has to do with his tweet (https://twitter.com/WillieAtFLO)

"In case it wasn't abundantly clear that IAWrestle's sole purpose was to recruit for Iowa"

I assume it was not:
"Personally, i thought Foxcatcher sucked on every level ..."
or
"F!!! this ESPN doc"
Which just seem to be rantings of a juvenile but don't have anything specifically to do with Iowa.

I understand the purpose fine. I understand that IA Wrestle is awesome and it does wonderful things for wrestling all around the state. Night of Conflict was to promote Iowa wrestling not recruit wrestlers to the state of Iowa or Iowa University. The interview too most probably sounds like a recruiting pitch and that is what Willie is calling out. You clearly don't understand that all Willie is doing is taking a shot at HR and Iowa fans by saying the interviewer was trying to sway Thompsen to Iowa. The same stuff people on this board accuse him of doing all the time for PSU. Seems like he is trying to get the point across that oh its ok for you to do it but when I do it its wrong.

In conclusion he is not attacking IA Wrestle. He is attacking HR and Iowa fans through IA Wrestle.

I like Willie, but he pretty explicitly calls out the IAWrestle guys in the replies to that Tweet, including calling them juvenile, unprofessional, cowardly, etc.

Yes. This is after they responded to this tweet.

We all know both tweets are not true. Just a child crying that his toy was taken away.

This is the tweet I'm trying to explain above and how all this started.

Do you think I don't understand that? Why would anybody be pissed at Willie if they didn't understand that. It's pretty much implied in every post in this thread that we all understand his point.

As for the legitimacy of his "point" at Iowa fans for that interview, I'll break it down in more detail. Iowa fans feel Flo, as a national brand supporting all of wrestling, ought to be unbiased. They feel Flo fails this mission because Willie appears to have an anti-Iowa bias. But I would guess the vast majority of Iowa fans do not feel that a wrestling site specifically devoted to providing information about Iowa wrestling has the same mission. I don't think they would be surprised if somebody from PAWrestle.com asked a kid if he'd like to wrestle for Cael. Different sites, different missions, different budgets, different way to judge them.

There is nothing hypocritical about holding Flo to a completely different standard that IAWrestle. They have completely different missions.

That Willie either doesn't understand this or, more likely, has decided to pretend he doesn't understand it in order to give himself a chance to criticize Iowa, speaks volumes about his intelligence and professionalism.

"This is a curious thing about internet arguments. It seems that even when a poster knows they are wrong, and they know that everybody else knows they're wrong, they seem to feel that if they keep insisting they're right they somehow don't lose the argument."

Might want to re-read this part that you posted and take a closer look at what you are saying. All i'm doing is explaining one tweet that Willie made. Not some huge conspiracy theory that you have on Flo and Willie. Calm down before you break the computer.

So, when is Iowa's media day?.............

LOL...no kidding! I can't believe we gave this idiot his own thread. BUT to be fair I'm laughing at the responses. He truly sucks but yes bring on media day!

Also I have nothing against Flo just one of their employees. CP FOR PROMOTION!!!;)

The "unbiased" "news" outlets are always taking shots at conservatives.

Willie is always taking shots at Iowa.

No one ever gets fired. Everyone who doesn't work for ESPN is protected under the 1st amendment and can pretty much say what they want.

This always reminds me of a quote I'm fond of. "It's OK we HATE you too."
