Wisconsin adds Dean Oliver to their coaching staff

Great move for a great Hawk. Would be great to see him coaching in black and gold some day.

I always wonder in cases like this, how does it feel to coach at a rival of your alma mater?
On a related note, Buckvillians think Illinois State's F MiKyle McIntosh is likely to grad transfer to Wisconsin.

Good for Dean Oliver, I concur.

I'm sure he's paid his dues, but I'm guessing the Mason City connection to Barry Alvarez probably doesn't hurt anything either.......................

Great opportunity for Dean. Working his way up the coaching ladder and a land a job at a school with so much recent basketball success says a lot about what the current staff thinks of Dean.

Dean coached at North Dakota for three years. So he and Jeff Horner are two from the Brian Jones coaching tree now:)

It's business and moving up in your career. It's the job your were hired to do so you do it
Seriously. I don't know why anyone would not understand this but it's obvious some here don't. Deano wants to coach and this job came up and they wanted him. I'm sure he'd love to coach at Iowa but AFAIK, Iowa has no openings for assistants so Deano is pretty much out of luck here, at least for now.

As you point out, it's business and moving up in your career, wherever it happens. Dean Oliver clearly wants to be a college coach and Wisconsin is a pretty damn good place to hook up. I'm thrilled for him. Good job Deano.

Let him cut his big league teeth at Wisky and when Andrew Francis takes his head coaching gig in a few years....Deano come back home.
