Wisconsin linebacker Mike Timm is going to be a Hawkeye. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Timm officially accepted a preferred walk-on opportunity from Iowa today after a visit from coaches Kirk Ferentz and Tim Polasek at his high school this morning.

"I chose Iowa for a few reasons, but mostly because of the people I would be surrounded with," said Timm. "I know that the people at Iowa will help me succeed on and off the field."

Timm's decision comes on the heels of a two-day visit to Iowa City this past weekend, which gave him an inside look at the Hawkeye football program and how he would fit in working under linebackers coach Seth Wallace.

"I understand that they are graduating some very talented players at linebacker, so I’m very excited to learn a lot and try to get on the field and be part of the mix as soon as I can," Timm said. "Coach Wallace said I will have to learn both the MIKE and WILL positions, but would really like to see me at the MIKE and as a leader of the defense."

"As far as my mindset goes, I’m really excited to get with Coach Doyle and Coach Wallace to begin working," said Timm. "I’m going to try and take in as much knowledge as I can to help me in the future. I’m very grateful for the opportunity."

Early in the recruiting process, Timm held scholarship offers from South Dakota State, Northern Iowa, North Dakota, and several Division II schools, but had narrowed his options down to walk-on opportunities at Iowa and Michigan recently as he looks to pursue his dream of playing in the Big Ten.

“A large part of why I want to walk on has to do with the idea that I don’t want to look back and think of what could’ve happened if I would’ve tried to play at the highest level possible,” said Timm. “It’s been a dream of mine to play Big Ten football and now that the opportunity has presented itself I don’t want to pass it up.”

As a senior, Timm earned conference defensive player of the year honors after racking up 142 tackles and 20 TFL this past season at Kettle Moraine High School in Wales, WI.

See highlights from Timm's senior year at Kettle Moraine in the video below.

I

looks like 5 ' 10 ish and 200 to me, limited to Mike position but a nice get as a PWO .
I thought KF was supposed to be 6'1" or 2. If so his posted height just over 6' looks pretty accurate. By the way I doubt that Abdul Hodge was much over 6', and I'd take another one of him.

I've stood next to Kirk before. I'm right at 6 foot and we were pretty much eye to eye. I'd say this kid could be 6'1 if he stands up more straight and maybe he still has a chance to grow?

where will some of these guys end up. We are taking a ton of guys at LB. Im sure we'll move some to FB. Curious where so many guys at the same position end up. They will find spots.

Seems like a determined kid. I wouldn't bet against him.
I don't think the majority of the discussion is aimed at a personal criticism of the kid. I think it's more to the perceived inaccuracies of his size. Very few posters here believe the 6'1" 220lbs when we see the pictures.

My response was to the OP and had nothing to do with posts about his size. I liked the quotes from this kid.

Correct and I listed his height and weight at a combine earlier in this thread. That was measured to the nearest half inch and tenth of a pound, so slightly more accurate than judging a picture on the Internet.

6'0.5"
213.3

Nice get and I love pulling guys out of Wisconsin. Like our great Iowa kids they are determined and hard working. Look for for 2-3 players from this walk on class to earn scholarships.

yep. some of these guys are overlooked 3 star recruits and will push hard for time during their stay in the program. alot of depth especially at LB and FB should come out of this.
