Special teams crapt the bed and were a huge reason we lost this game. However poor coaching on O was a huge reason too. Not sure why Kirk and Brian play right into Wisconsin's hands every year. We are fine playing a conservative style and taking a 50/50 game into the 4th. It's why we lose games to the Northwesterns, Purdues, Indiana's, Minnesota's and so on....but Wisconsin why do always play into their hands when we have chances to turn up the heat. Fant and Hockensen were huge mismatches this game. We actually had Wisconsin on their heels when we were throwing to them. Brian and Kirk insist on always being balanced and it makes us predictable. Wisconsin knows our style they know our entire playbook. Why was Brian calling plays that hadn't worked all game deep into the 4th qtr? It's like Wisconsin got to call one or two of Iowa's plays every set of downs out there.

Now Wisconsin has to lose twice and we can't lose again. We are likely left battling it out for 2nd place in a terrible West division now.

If we have to battle it out for 2nd in the west this year from what I have seen the rest of the west do it is going to be a LONG season and a toilet bowl for us in December....

Our tight ends owned them then we start throwing to ISM? WTF!

Our coverage was dogshit all night, wide open receivers everywhere when it counted, and we still outplayed them and predictably found a way to Piss it down our leg. Again.

13 against Iowa State and 14 against Wisconsin. SMH. That's how you get beat at Home.

Brian Ferentz called a good game in the 2nd half. The play calling wasn't the issue.

Special teams hurt Iowa.

Iowa's approach to the game will never change under Ferentz. It keeps Iowa in a lot of games but as you rightly pointed out it puts them in position to lose a lot of games in the 4th Quarter.

It's never going to change, though, so you might as well accept it and move on.

Pass coverage was horse crap.

Not sure why we go into this game every year with the same gameplan no matter where our strengths are and where our mismatches are? We always play right into their hands. Wisconsin had no idea how to cover Hock and Fant. Even when we had clear mismatches in coverage we ran run plays that rarely to never work against Wisconsin. Terrible coaching, terrible way to adapt to this game every year.

Brian did not call a good game. He stuck with the same predictable plays that never work even one run play on our last possession with a chance to ice the game. The dude has moments of brilliance but he rarely borderline never calls a complete game. For a team that likes to take 50/50 games deep into the 4th we rarely have the ball last with a chance to win in These big games. We love to give the ball back to these teams with 5, 6, 7 mins left and then our D always seems to ceremoniously have their worst series of the game.

That's because Kirk doesn't realize that Norm Parker is gone.
