Wishing 'happy birthday' to dead people

I don't get it. I see it all the time on Facebook and other social media sites and it makes no damn sense to me.

Yesterday The Who's official Facebook page posted "A very happy birthday to Keith John Moon, born this day in 1946".

I doubt very much that Keith had a happy birthday yesterday, on account of he's dead.

I can see posting something along the lines of "Keith Moon would have turned 69 today. R.I.P. Keith", or something like that.
 
How do you know the person that Mark Zuckerberg will eventually steal his idea from to post messages to dead people hasn't already died?
