Wisky #10

I don't ever remember there being a bigger discrepancy for iowa in the two polls. Anyone else?

This is the first time I have agreed more with the Coaches poll (and not just because of Iowa) throughout the top 25

Beauty pageant polls the first half of the year give media people and fans something to talk about. That's all they're worth.
Let's see how teams look after they've played 6 games.

Well, looks like our schedule isn't so weak afterall.

This is actually a HUGE positive for Iowa. The back end of our schedule is likely to play against 3 ranked teams with Wisky, Michigan and Nebraska (they are currently receiving votes). Heck, Penn State could get there with a few surprises.

People will knock our schedule in the preseason, but until the games are played, it's hard to know. I think Wisky looked like the best team in the B1G west, but I don't think they can survive the schedule they have. The key is that the B12 crapped the bed. Oklahoma now MUST beat Ohio State or only TCU would make the playoff this year from the B12 (OSU, Texas, Baylor are "alive" but I can't see any of them winning the B12 over Oklahoma and TCU). With a P5 conference out and ND having already lost, it is between 4 conferences and Houston for the 4 slots. Houston must win out (except for a possible close loss to Louisville late in the year, but even that might doom them).

The one scenario that frightens me is what happens if Alabama goes 12-0 and loses in the SECCG? I have to imagine they still get the nod and likely the SEC champion would too.

The joke with polls is a huge win(like Wisconsin's) can leap you up the polls, but that same huge win in game 10 might move you up 1 or 2 spots(depending what others do). Back to the argument that no polls should be published until after 5 games have been played.

The ND apologists are already out in full force, so don't ever count them out until it's official that they're out. After they get done playing The Civil Air Patrol, they'll be right back in the discussion.

same thing happened to 12-1 Iowa last season, as well there was 11-1 Ohio State...

should have been 3 B1G teams in the Playoffs last year?

Probably one of the worst polls I've seen in a long time. Michigan State is better than Wisconsin for God's sake. This poll is just a mess.

Texas will fall out in no time.
Georgia jumped way too high.
Stanford should've dropped at least one.
Michigan still laughably overrated too.

Either LSU was greatly over rated or Wisconsin greatly under rated. I believe LSU was over rated. LSU still has the same problems with their offense as they did last yr. Plus I think Miles is an over rated coach who has never gotten the potential out of the recruiting talent he gets every yr.

Wisconsin still has a very tough schedule and they loss one of their starting LBs for the rest of the season. Their QB looked shaky at times. If it wasn't for the terrible interception thrown by the LSU's QB towards the end of the game, LSU could of very easily pulled it out. I just don't think LSU or Wisconsin are top 10 teams.

Let's be semi objective here. Wisconsin QB threw a horrible pass to give LSU that easy touchdown. Wisconsin WON the game, LSU did not give it to them. Go Big10.

My point is that Alabama is deemed the #1 team. If they go 12-0 in the regular season (especially if it is in dominant fashion) and lose a close game in the SECCG; I think there would be a lot of deliberation to buck the trend of all participants being P5 Conference Champions.

Having watched the pre-game warm-ups and the game, it is likely a combination of LSU being overrated and the Badgers underrated; whether "greatly" remains to be seen. LSU's offense was not impressive but they were up against a very good defense. Fournette will win some games for them, solely on his own extraordinary talent. Their defense is good but transitioning to a 3-4. Dave Aranda will have them humming soon, as he did at Wisco. I believe the Tigers have a favorable schedule and it wouldn't surprise me if they finish ranked in the top ten.
As for the Badgers, a month from now we will have a much better sense as to how underrated they were.

Wisky Win is good for Iowa in that it brings the league up and gives us a boost for when we play Wisc

Before Wisky comes to town, they play at MSU, at Mich, home at OSU. Lmao

No freaking way they will be highly ranked or even higher than Iowa. Heck ranked at all. Well maybe since all those teams are ranked. Wisky at best will be ranked #23-25. Beating them will matter but not as much as you'd think.

This makes no sense whatsoever. If they take two out of those three, we'd better have looked really impressive against Purdue, Minnesota and Northwestern. It does matter to beat ranked teams or at least make a game out of it. It would be too bad if they dropped out of the rankings since we would then be at around game 10 before even playing a ranked team, much less beating someone in the top ten.

I'm still not convinced MSU is anything great, personally. I wouldn't say MSU is guaranteed to beat wiscy....(neither is osu/mi....though MUCH MORE likely imo)
If wiscy beats msu and loses to OSU/MI....that's not that bad. 2-2 against mi/lsu/osu/msu.
MI/OSU will likely be ranked top 5 or so!
I just like how they say....wow our poll was so crappy preseason that we're gonna take you from unranked to #10 because you beat the #5(in our crappy poll) that hasn't even won a game yet

Yep... WI way out played LSU. The score should have more lopsided. WI will be a good win for the Hawks!

I didn't watch the MSU game but thought that of the first three conference games, the Badgers most winnable game would be at East Lansing. A bye week before the OSU night game at Camp Randall on October 15th will be of benefit . A win at Michigan the week after MSU would be the least likely of the three.

So preseason polls the coaches had MSU at 11 and AP didn't even have them ranked?

I see exactly where you're coming from, you know there would be a huge push by the mothership to get 2 SEC teams in the playoff if that were the case. What if Alabama lost to an 8-4 Florida or Georgia team in the CCG (very unlikely). If you aren't the conference winner then you don't deserve to be in the playoffs IMO. That's where it can be unfair that teams don't play a CCG (B12) or aren't in a conference (ND). Would love to see something like this happen just to piss everyone off though! (myself included)
